Yes, and I'd have stayed longer than one day. There was a lot to see and do.

I am from that area, and assure you, you will enjoy your tour much better with a car. The downtown core of Victoria is walkable, but if you wish to do a little more touring a car will make it quicker.
I also would recommend a trip up the island, it is incredibly beautiful, Tofino and Long Beach are both worthy of viewing. As well, much further up the Island if you drive into Bamfield, that is the furthest end of the West Coast trail, you drive through a very old forest to get there.. it is all so beautiful.

Why not, LTF?
We will enter your country near Thunder Bay, Ontario, then proceed west. Next year we hope to go east from there to Nova Scotia, then downward through Maine and into New Bedford, Massachusetts where my 50th class reunion (my first ever) will be held.
