Stephanus,
Yep, but I'd run it up against a typical toasted cheese sandwich (as we a call them here in the US) anyday! I love simple, easy to make food with a few twists and really good, fresh ingredients. I'd recommend reading an article in last week's NY Times called 101 10 Minute Meals It's not really recipes, per se, but just ideas like I used, and the best cooking info I've read in a long time. Dozens of really cool, quick ideas for meals. It was also the 2nd most popular article in the paper for the month of July.
I would also suggest that, if you want to have an interesting and delicious variation on the typical toasted cheese sandwich, add peanut butter. Awesome.
Stillajw: Very funny!

sliced it thick, put on butter, slices of tomato from my own garden, covered that with sharp cheddar cheese made at the farm down the road, then slid them under the broiler til the bread browned and the cheese and butter melted
that was my breakfast this morning, though I'd made the bread but didn't have local cheese.
Anyone belong to a CSA (community supported agricultural farm)?

I love to watch the Food Network channel, often I even have it on in the background while doing other things.
My favorites Easy Entertaining with Michael Chiarello but I like all the shows. -

Did anyone see Bourdain and Zimmern tonight??
The BEST food shows! Yes!
Zimmern's first stop in NYC was the Carnegie Deli - Lori and I ate there with her family on our first trip together to NYC (I've been to NYC lots, since 1961, [conventions in '61, '63, '69, '71 and '73, work at Bethel, etc.] but not with her).
These shows gave me so much inspiration in so many ways. Writing, eating, cooking, living...

What's that place in New York that names sandwiches after celebrities? The only one I recall is the "Katy Kouric", made with a "ham" and a "turkey", IIRC.

I like Anthony Bourdain - but mainly because he is such a bad boy and not ashamed of it.
Oh yes, yes, yes. Between him and James Spader...I was just talking to one of my clients about Anthony and she was shocked to hear how much I loved watching him because of his unapologetic naughty boy streak as she too felt the same way. I wonder how many other middle aged women lust after Anthony?? Could give a darn about the food, actually that's just "icing on the cake" ;-) I watch him for the "eye candy." --sorry couldn't resist.

Rebirth, that's funny, but understandable. And I wonder how many guys in their 50s remain sex symbols??
I was doing a bunch of work around the house last night, and they ran a bunch of Bourdain's shows back to back, and I had them on while I was doing my stuff. What I noticed was his easy way with people no matter where he was.
Here's this master chef from some of the best restaurants in Manhattan, and he's totally at home eating with peasant farmers in an isolated barn in China. A very interesting way about him that is appealing, yes.
As a writer, I also like that he introduces himself on the show as a writer, and not as a chef.

Yeah, Anthony Bourdain is the best bad boy of them all.
