Tyrone, it was beautiful but very mathematic in my opinion. I am huge fan of the Romantics and Beethoven and some of the Bizarre fellows: Such as Erik Satie!

One of my all time favorite pieces is Camile Saint Sans, "The Aquarium"....I ordered the music from Paris, and it was not to my liking so I took the notes and made my own rendition. I can duplicate the sound on the Piano to my liking, but not as written.

I have learned Erik Satie's Gymnopedies and his 3 "Crooked Dances"...he was a great friend of Camille Saint Sans.

Tyrone, the link you just sent was incredible, but reminded me of my own cousin's daughters. It takes your breath away. My second cousins, (although I consider them my nieces) are award winning, cello, violin and piano players at age 13 and 16. They have been playing since the age of about 4.

    Thanks for the link.

Your welcome restrrangled. Yes, it seems the human race is evolving as you can see in your own immediate surroundings and family. I notice that none of these prodigies even look at notes. It is as if the wisdom and skill of the ages is being handed to them as a gift. Here is one of the youngest prodigies on the globe.

Tyrone, Memorizing notes is easy. Thats what I have to do. I cannot play directly from music on a page. Anything I have learned is in my head and has stayed there since I was a little girl. It just seems to translate to my fingers. If I don't "Think" about what I am playing, the easier it is.

I can close my eyes and play....not in front of anyone else...just for me. It helps me hear my playing better, and I can "feel" the music. I do not have to see the piano keys or music on a page, I just have to hear it.

    Does that make any sense?

Enya, Bach, Chopin and the theme to the movie the "Piano" are some of my favorites to play with my eyes closed.

    Hey, r.,

If I've got my stories right, Evgeny Kissim, the 30ish, currently red-hot pianist, transcribed Tchaikovsky's "Nutcracker Suite" for his own use on the piano when he was 5 years old.

Ho-hum, just another day in the life of the muses!

Camille Saint-Saens - a child prodigy - was one of the greatest and most prolific composers of all times [of course, you already knew that!]. I play "The Aquarium," too.

    Hey Coco!

If you play the Aquarium....I am absolutely blown away! Much harder than anything I have ever attempted, including Rachmaninoff, Bach, Beethoven or Chopin.

    I am impressed!

That was very funny, and reminded me of Victor Borge's type of humor. That guy was a brilliant entertainer, not to mention pianist.

I am so sorry to have to unimpress you, r.! When you wrote "The Aquarium," that, natch, made me think of water, which led me to swans, who are very much in need of streams of said water to perform their gliding duties. Much to the needed point, I do, rather, play "The Swan."
Perhaps you will forgive me, though, as I am in the process of recording selections from "The Phantom of the Opera" for you on a student's Yamaha Disc Clavier. So far it sounds like a symphony orchestra though it's only my ten digits. It is truly wondrous, electronically speaking.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7xz1nos-xc Well you know what, you both impress me with anything like this, and since I can't impress you with such things watch this 8 year old playing Chopin. I just love this stuff.
