well, pardon my language here, but WTF???????

first and foremost... who cares? i have seen the shift myself, because i have gone to a district convention or two to see my mother and sister... and yes, there are more black people there now... i guess now that i think about it... but why the hell does it matter so much to you? southern baptists are heavy on blacks too...

im sorry maybe im seeing some racist innuendo that is not there, but i dont see why the hell you are sitting there playing count the negroes... i think that, even if you are at an assembly, you must have better things to do with your time.. like writing, reading or going for a walk...

this topic kinda offends me... im sorry if im being a prude here, but your (not that it matters) doesnt help the situation here... black or white, they are people... your observation to me is, well, offensive, and a nice step towards racism in my books....argh, now i sound like a prick, and i know someone will say calm down infamous, but seriously, COUNT THE NEGROES?????

    the infamous one

It depends on where you are. Some circuits and districts are almost all white. And the other can be true, too.

I haven't heard of blacks overtaking white in population ratios. I have heard though that the hispanic population in California will overtake the caucasion population in the not so distant future.

I don't feel that this topic is offensive although the very nature of mentioning blacks v whites is ALWAYS going to make some people feel uncomfortable/offended.

I don't think Coaster has any bad or motives or racist tendencies, he is just making an observation, just the same as if he had noticed that were more 17 year old or 96 year olds in the congregations or more women than men. We are all equal as human beings regardless or race, gender, age, education, income, etc.

It is interesting though to note how an organisation/religion is made up and what types of human beings it attracts - market research does this all the time with everything.

In our congregation, the majority of publishers are black and indeed the whole circuit is as well, it's a London thing. Plus blacks seem to have larger families which obviously affects the ratios. Just my observation, hopefully I have not stereotyped or offended anyone here, if I have, my sincere apologies.

Hang on InfamousOne! I aplogize for any hint of racism. That is truly one thing the WT has been great at NOT instilling in me. I think we have a healthier view of all peoples than anyone, and even my sister married a supere nice black guy.

Believe me, i did my share of walking, writing, sitting in the car readin the paper etc.....In fact while walking, I made another observation, young witness babes are hotter than ever, show much better cleavage, and wear way sexier tighter clothes!!

I think it is the NAACP who only count blacks! (million man march) I did not count Blacks! I counted Blacks, and Whites, and did so only because I noticed that I was so in the minority, and even the white speakers were are big minority.

    too damned observant...coaster

The number of blacks in the WTS has increased, no doubt. In general, there are more "darker" people than "white" people in the world today. I would expect that the rank and file would reflect that more and more.

But an increase in those in administrative positions. It took 121 years to get a black man in a top administrative position in the WTS. It has been 7 years and several GB members have died but no others.

In 50 years, 20 states, 3 countries, I have only seen 2 black COs, 1 black DO. The complexion of the congregation tends to reflect the territory they are in as well. Education and financial status seem to drive the selection of blacks as elders in predominantly white congregations in my even limited experience.

Also, it is hard to tell how "black" someone is. Is someone who is half black and half white counted as black or white?

Just some meanderings over the years.

Blondie, I see you are from Norway and this may be the reason your experience is so different from mine in southeastern USA. As to the partial white or black thing I SWEAR I was not using binoculars or telescope!!!!!

Hell of a mess it is.......Coaster

Blondie...Norway...that's a good one! Coaster, Blondie is a world traveller and her comments are generally accurate for the society as a whole.

Where I live in Canada, the proportion of blacks is much lower. This is also reflected at our conventions.

Ahhh Creepy!! I have missed you. I woke up this morning and read this and for some reason a huge a$$ smile broke across my face. I can't explain it exactly. It just tickled the heck out fof me and I thought to myself! THERES CREEPY!!!! How have you ben my most non racist lil Canadian?

I think I might cancel my own count out being half and half mix. lol (And you might give coaster a break here, it is an assembly, I can't begin to name all the stupid things I started to count to get throught those damn things) I counted times they said Jehovah, Jesus, the word I, or paradise. Tiles in the ceiling, brothers with certian color ties, lightbulbs along the top railings.....the list could go on and on.

In the area that I live in, there are only black CO's. We've had a mixture of white and black DO's though.

Growing up, i was always irritated at the fact that the watchtowers had a diverse group of people sitting in the meetings but my congregation was 99.999% black, the .001% being the occasional white or Hispanic public speaker and an Indian sister who sporadically came to our meetings.

I guess it all has to do with where you are. In the territory I was a part of blacks make up about 57% of the population. The blacks in our territory were working class and the whites in our territory were government officials, young professionals or college students and I don't know about you guys, but I feel that selling the word of the watchtower is a lot easier to sell to working class folk than to very well off individuals.

My family in the 'truth' get angry when i say this, but one thing I've noticed among most witnesses regardless of ethnicity is the contentment with the "Upward Mobility" that the watchtower society provides (as opposed to secular advancement). Maybe thats why it was so popular in my area.

Well by and large give JWs credit - they are mainly not racist. However there is only one African American on the GB - and there sure as hell needs to be some Latin Americans and Asians
