    was today.

He's more upset then he thought he would be.

After nearly 30 years with a company and they just say "see ya".

They've let around 50 people go so far and there are more terminations to come.

We've been scouring the various websites (career builder, monster etc) and the local papers and out of state papers......

    ....

    just nothin much out there...

Thinking out loud tonight he mentioned Canada. Not my first choice, only because I'm not a fan of winter to begin with, going more North is not something I'm completely in love with, but at this point.........anywhere he can get a job that pays decently.

He's going to take a test for the postal service. He has to pass with a 90 and then goes on a list or something...so we'll see about that. Crossing our fingers.

I know somehow it's going to be ok. It's just the stress of getting to that point is sometimes a little tough.

Lots of work in Alberta. The kicker is you better have a place to live before you move here.

So what are the regulations regarding a US citizen getting a job in Canada...how easy is it?

Just pepper the place with resumes I say. I have had my position cut once and found another job in house...but that can change at any moment with the axe flying left and right.

Just keep at it; something will open up. Have friends and family look too. Many jobs are found by word of mouth not advertisements in the paper.

Is he a handy guy? I'm always trying to find a qualified, reliable person who isn't totally booked into the next century.

If you have a job offer, there's a process very similar to getting a "green card". The US Citizen would be a "landed immigrant" and from what I hear, have to pay fees for various hearings and renewals. My American neighbour spits nails when she talks about it. Nevertheless, she's just sponsored her mother to come to Canada as well.

OOPS! I see temporary work permits are allowed as well. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp

I do know the stress you are under. My husband left his job before they could give him the axe (he was the last one in his dept. left after a year and a half of job cuts.) He had an opportunity for some part-time work in his field so he took it knowing he wouldn't have a job soon. It was very PART-TIME if you know what I mean! It was really tough. Our kids were young also and it was hard for me to work a lot.

It works out in the end. Everybody goes through slim times and it's not fun, but it all usually works out in the end.

Keep the resumes flying and something will come through...

I'll be thinking of you guys!

Let me know if there's anything I can do....

    btw- what does he do?
