    Jeff:

I've read about this on several forums, and even with my personal experience with the WTS I find it amazing that they have actually gone this far. It certainly marks a tightening of the mind control and makes them much more "cultish".

My father, who served as a pioneer, congregation servant, elder, etc., etc., had a large library including many Bible Commentaries and many different Bible translations. Scholarly discussions were welcome when I was growing up. I should also mention that my father had a college education.

My dad stepped down as an elder in the mid-1980s. He never gave us a reason; I think the reason he gave the congregation was my mother's health. I have always wondered what his REAL reason was.

Dad died in 1991. He never heard about the loosening of the ban on college, or the revision of the "generation" doctrine.

If there are any people like my Dad still in this organization, I don't see how they could remain at this point. Ruling out all outside research on the Bible should be a red flag like no other. My sister is still "in", I don't know how this will affect her. I don't think she is much inclined to research (probably the reason she's still JW), she just does what she's told.

I hope this causes people to run for their lives to get away from the Watchtower.

    Ruth

"a few associates of our organization have formed groups to do independent research on Bible-related subjects" - they don't even call them brothers and sisters, setting up the wall that will be erected when they cast them off for violation in the future perhaps?

Good catch on the language. They are not called, "brothers," or even "friends." Association does not imply membership. The society is clearly trying to draw a "line in the sand." Of course, what else would you expect from a cult?

    You also said:

"How many Jw's still can't see the bars swinging shut on them I wonder?"

My crystal ball says: 90 - 95%. (Of course that's just my gut, and Carl Sagan warned about thinking with that particular body part. Still trying to rid myself of that habit.)

This KM question box will be fantastic ammo for me. Dubs in my hall probably won't bat an eye over this, as most of them prefer to live in ignorance of the apologist websites out there. But this will be great for me and for everyone who is trying to wake people up to what's going on.

Looks like that metaphorical frog is getting the heat turned up, and he doesn't even know that he's going to be cooked.

Imagine, now...they can issue more alarming and strident statements and there won't be any apologists to counter them. Mother said no more forums!

This breaks my heart, how can people live under such a totalitarian regime. I guess some good may come of it. The truly brainwashed JW will lap it up, but there was little hope for them anyway. But there may be some hope for the thinkers, who will recognise such flagrant manipulation as the mark of a cult and see no alternative but to leave. The Watchtower really is trying to breed a race of ignorant followers, pushing away any who display personality and initiative.

Jeff- My dad, an elder for 50 plus years studied our family geneology in the mid 1990's and found my side of the family came from Wales, England in the 1790's. Of course it was extremely dangerous for him to do that according to the mind control experts of the witnessdumb. I found it to be enjoyable to find out about relatives from over 200 years ago. I still have all the info. Oh, and hey, my Dad's still an elder! Guess it wasn't as important as the governing body made it out to be. If the governing body wants to think about what are really foolish questionings, then perhaps they should consider some of the asinine questions they ask members of their church at judicial committee meetings. Personal questions that you wouldn't even ask your pet dog or cat, for christ's sake! The more controlling these nutcases get, the more they try to squeeze people into their mold, we can only hope that some in the org. will get wise to it and leave eventually bringing down this harmful cult! Great thread Jeff! Peace out, Mr. Flipper

I do! At least for those who are willing to think about how this really sounds. Telling adult human beings, who claim to be free moral agents and Christians, that it is unacceptable to study the Bible privately and debate it's meaning, seems a bit over the top.

Let's hope a few exercise that freedom to think and flee that cuckoo's nest.
