According to JW Media, baptism "symbolizes one's dedication to God".
On this basis, a JW's allegiance and obedience is to God. Thus, the article goes on to state:
Jehovah's Witnesses avoid making rules and regulations beyond those provided in the Scriptures, and they do not follow traditions that contradict Bible teachings. Emphasis is placed on personal application of Bible principles and the value of a sound, Bible-based conscienceMany would dispute that. If you are one who has been a member of a JW congregation, how many "rules and regulations" that go "beyond those provided in the Scriptures" can you think of?
Let me start:
1. Requiring a member to go before a judicial committee.
2. "Restrictions" placed on members adjudged to be repentant sinners, or on re-instated members.
3. Prohibition on smoking tobacco.
4. Attempting to 'split hairs' over what is/is not allowed with blood.
5. Loyalty to an organisation and acceptance of a ruling body termed a "faithful and discreet slave."
6. (Space for your entry)
etc etc
