OMG! the dumbass brother was expecting a laugh after saying that going to college was like "girls gone wild". (pause), boys too. (pause, then hurry up and get on with it).

he was probably thinking, 'damn, i killed when telling this to the brothers in my hall'.

btw, how does HE know about 'girls gone wild'? since the internet is dangerous, you can order 'girls gone wild' right now from the TV by dialing 888-666-6969. [theym didn't say tha TV were badness, only internets, where my phone and my hand cream?]

how can jws who have been 'in' for 20 years, not see that they've completely flip-flopped this issue and now it's the most pathetic reasoning yet? i bet the deal also is b/c people were actually finding satisfaction in working and their jobs because they made money doing what they loved, and if you're getting joy out of life and aren't downtrodden and only looking forward to going to the bookstudy b/c you're being so persecuted at your shit job, it's a threat to the older brothers who are still working their asses off as janitors and floor cleaners.

janitors for jesus, the name of my next band.

personally, i did some college in 1990, when it was still taboo before they changed their mind some years later, and finally dropped out just to get the elders to shut the f*&k up and leave me alone so i could still go to meetings w/o hassle....the some college i did, i'm still connected to a lot of those people and working in a similar industry and would never have received those connections by not going to college.

this is also a SHUNNING issue too....b/c going to college sets you up for the job market by networking, which is one of the most important ways of getting a job, and if your only network is JWs, then you're probably working for a brother or with other brothers and sisters, and if you're DF'ed, change your beliefs, you're out of friends and out financially too.

a particularly GENIUS choke-hold to put on jws.

and yes, i've seen more binge drinking with jws than at a lot of college parties i went to where people weren't wound up so tight all their lives as jws and finally getting a few nights to tear it up.

wtbts, you're putting a burden on millions of people that has absolutely no basis in reality, spirituality, "truth", bible, whatever.

I'm glad that I got a good education at college and in the navy before becoming a jw. I also did an Open University distant learning course while I was pioneering. I kept that secret for years. Some in the congregations I served in complained to me in private that they wanted to go to college, but were discouraged by their parents and the elders. I pity these young witnesses being lead by those donkeys from Brooklyn.

When I was at Bethel, latter 70's, I worked with a number of guys who had college degrees. Three that come to mind, one taught grade school, other was an architect, and one guy, had his BS in mathmatics, which he had at the age of 18 (yeah, genius level). All three of these guys worked in my dept. All three got transfered to really good jobs (I mean really good jobs) at Bethel due to their college degrees.

An observation that was not lost on anyone on the floor I worked on. And a reason why a good number of guys who I knew that left, headed straight for college after Bethel, including myself. I am so glad I did.

I have a new demand for the next stand on college, and it had better be permanent. College should be strongly encouraged for all those who have the ability to do reasonably well. And not some crap courses meant to support a person while pioneering, either. Courses had better be designed to give the person optimal chances of success in getting the best paying, most fulfilling job they are capable of doing while balancing out their thinking abilities.

If you guys in Brooklyn who are running the Watchtower Society do not implement this rule at once and for good, then you are going to be up Sxxx Creek without a paddle real soon. You have a ton of lawsuits about to hit you, and people need to be making at least a million dollars a year per publisher in order for you to have a chance at paying them out. You are going to lose, since the lawyers out here in the world are being educated in your specious arguments, non sequitors, tampering with the meanings of words to throw off the line of reasoning, and outright lying. Soon, your Tower is coming down because of these upcoming legal difficulties. And then what are you guys going to do?

Ted Jaracz, you owe everyone that listened to these discourses a fulfilling, high-paying job (and high paying doesn't mean washing windows for 80 or 90 hours a week, either). I am talking about the sort of jobs where people are going to have the chance to revamp the whole medical system so cures for diseases are found. I'm talking developing alternate energy sources so when oil hits $900 a barrel, we will not have an energy crisis. I'm talking about sending man to Mars and the other planets. I am talking about engineering housing projects to drive down the cost of renting apartments to $100 or less a month. I am talking about better means of getting from here to there without the accidents, traffic jams, costly gas and auto maintenance, and spending too much time because of the speed limits. I am talking about finding access to all the infinity dimensions that theoretically exist. And more.

And if you do not accede to this, I hope you are ready for a l-o-n-g time to think about what you did to all those lives, and those you are trying to scam into the Tower. Because you are going to have that long to agonize about it--in hell.

I agree with monophonic..College is not only about education but networking too....When I think of all the unemployed brothers and sisters in my old hall..imagine..with no education and no one to "hook" you up..especially in a latin country where there is already so much crisis...I feel so sorry for these people. They are so lost and the worst part is that their families suffer as well. Their children, their wives, their marriages...it's like a domino effect.

This came up with my mom two nights ago (she is still in 'The Truth'). She told me college was not frowned upon in general, community college would be OK nowadays. It's the campus & dorm lifestyle they are afraid of.

Too bad this wasn't the case when I was 18. In my congregation when you graduated it was the unwritten rule that your career as pioneer starts. So much wasted potential.

The one thing that I notice about most of the replies to this thread is that folks are blaming the WTBTS and their policy on no higher education.

The one thing that very few mention is that they are actively going to college - or did so - after they left the cult. (Except for Odrade - Way to go!!!)

Folks - now that you (and I) are out of that cult - we can go to college. No one is stopping you (us) - but you yourself (myself). No, it isn't easy, but place blame where it belongs - right now. No one is stopping you from signing up for night courses. (I am my own worst critic. I am lazy - otherwise, I would be in class in the evenings. It's MY fault that I do not have a college degree.)

Just thought I would mention that. Yes, it's true - they discourage those still in - from going to college. That sucks. They haven't learned that having a bunch of welfare - or low income - members is not really beneficial for their 'contribution' boxes.

Heck - I've seen news footage of folks who are in their 90's getting degrees - so it's never too late - until you're pushing up daisies.

    Regards,

    Jim TX
