So I am getting peeved at Xians who go to great lengths and lie about something (their community event, their charity, whatever) being "not religious".
Truth is, it's "non-denominational".
Then people like me get roped in, only to find out that it is indeed a religious thing.
I've had 2 separate people recently insist talking about the Bible isn't religious! They refuse to use the word "non-denominational" and won't explain why.
What is up with this? Why don't they just tell the truth? Is it a recruitment technique or something?
Non-Denominational = Non-Religious?

I have a niece who goes to a "non denominational" church. We have all decided that that is the denomination, "non denominational". It is organized, has a headquarters, and all the rest. I guess the difference is they aren't Presbyterian, Lutheran or Methodist.

They refuse to use the word "non-denominational"
One time I was out in service with a guy who offered magazines to a person saying that it was 'non-denominational Bible literature'.

Exactly. They've noticed a certain animosity to the word religion so they've stopped using it. Anybody unscrupulously trying to sell something or recruit someone uses similar techniques: "No, it's not a pyramid scheme"; "There's no obligation to buy"; "I just want to cuddle" etc.
Specifically certain Christians have taken to denying that their religion is actually a religion at all and that it is instead a "relationship with Christ". Of course "Christ" is actually a deity who they worship, not someone with whom they have a relationship, so it's a blatant and deliberate lie designed to confuse unsuspecting victims.

It's a play with words anyone and anything that seeks to put people in touch with the divine be it god, Christ, allah, some hindu or other pagan deity is a religion whether denominational or not. Even the atheistic evolutionists are to some extend a religion since they seek to connect people to a mysterious divinity (claimed to be unintelligent yet her actions are supremely intelligent) called mother nature.

Rebel: Why don't you ask them.
Mulan: I also go to a "non-demoninational" church. Don't know how your neice defines the word, we define it as meaning that our church isn't part of anything bigger than itself. Maybe you should ask your neice what she means by it.

JeffT, I did. They got a confused look on their faces and changed the subject.
I think the real answer is, "I don't know why exactly. Someone told me to say that because it puts people off. Better to trick them at first. We just want to cuddle." LOL
The difference is that you are using the true term (non-denominational) and not pretending that a church is not religion. -

How can something be non-denominational? What does that mean? I guess it means - not-mainstream.
I attended one of those this week - but never tried to call it non-religious. It was religious.

Everybody is working an angle on this planet.
Are you sure there aren't just a few people (on this planet) who are just trying to get along without screwing with other people's minds or money?
