Very professional. How's it going with your new sysadmin job?

It has been both terrifying and wonderful at the same time. The last sysadmin there had been gone since December I think. Some of the very most basic duties were taken over temporarily by a few of the desktop admins, but there hasn't been anybody dedicated to transitioning me into the position. Even my boss is on vacation for 2 weeks! I spent yesterday's and today's afternoons just sifting through tapes for the backup robot (about 60)- they haven't been properly rotated since the last admin and nobody knows the procedure that was in place. And there are 23 tapes inside the robot - and I don't know which ones I can safely rotate out. Topping that off, I thought that it would be a good idea to just take the 23 oldest tapes and put them in for at least a stop-gap maesure (while preserving the order of the installed tapes), but I discovered (while attempting to alter the backup jobs) that I haven't been granted Netware permissions to access the Netware servers. I can't even pause all the old backup schedules and put my new ones in place because I can't tell the software what to do with all the servers! But, I love the challenges and it is soooo awesome to feel that I can be useful to my IT dept. They have assigned to me the task of getting a brand new Zeus IVR phone dialer system up and running. That thing will be sweeeet! And we just received a couple of monstrous new storage servers today. The pallet is five foot high stacked with shrink wrapped new gear. I will be integral to implementing that system. Fun! I find that I smile a lot anymore....

Hey! I buy those things! The servers, not the staplers. And all things IT. Very nice pic, thanks for sharing. I expected at least some facial hair, but perhaps later.

Ya, those dl380 servers are damn good. Probably a 1/4 of our servers are that model. We have several 360 models also. As far as the facial hair....HAHAAHa! No-can-do. That's what laser hair removal looks like. That pic was taken at about 11:00 AM and I don't know when I shaved before that!
