The latest reports are in - the USA has dropped from 11th to 42nd place in life expectancy - behind Guam, Jordan and Japan.
Is this because people are dying quicker here, or because Guam, Jordan and Japan are getting better?
Just checking.

They sat 75 % of americans will be overweight within a few years. That is probably part of it. The healthcare crisis has to be partially to blame too. Our citizens are not entitled to healthcare as many countries are.

Here are some other possible reasons why life expectancy is not going up:
(1) The FDA is too restrictive in approving new treatments. That stops new companies from marketing new drugs and herbs that cure diseases, and slows down the release of new treatments and cures. It also keeps drug prices in the USA prohibitively expensive for those without insurance.
(2) The food. I have noticed way too many labels where food contains monosodium glutamate and does not come clean about it. There are ingredients that always contain glutamate in free form, and they know it. High fructose corn syrup is another villain, keeping people from being satisfied with reasonable portions (I have found that in foods like pickles and ketchup. Don't believe me? Next time you go to the store, look at the ingredients in a bottle of ketchup or pickles.) Plus, people consume way too much soda and not enough water.
(3) Putting whole populations on drugs. At no point in history has there been so many "diseases" that "require" drugs. That ADD crap is the prime example: schools have to force children into a passive mold to satisfy the administration and the government dumb-down-America programs that are intended to keep them leadable (though not as bad as the Watchtower Society). Drugs are prescribed for that. There are also way too many antibiotics prescribed for stupid things (I defind a stupid course of antibiotics as one where the infection would have cleared up on its own or with help from natural remedies). Acidophilus is not prescribed with antibiotics, so yeast tends to build up and lead to further problems. You don't believe me? Just look up "candida" on a search engine and/or find a candida yeast cleanse and see if it helps you in some way.
(4) No exercise. People used to walk and do work with their muscles. These days, the average person walks less than 1/4 mile a day (and I have heard estimates as low as 1/10 mile). This is more true where people drive to work, sit at a desk all day, drive back home, and have drive-through everythings.
What people can do now is to start walking more. If you walk at least 6 miles a day, not including the slow stroll of field service, it becomes very difficult to stay fat. Having school systems that encourage people to learn via integration rather than rote memorization would cut back on the Ritalin and other drugs. More freedom from stupid rules that only serve the interests of big companies would allow more stimulating jobs, cutting down on bad stress. Eating better food is also a big help. Finally, if you are one of Jehovah's Witnesses, you should realize the stress involved in that religion plus that they eat some of the worst "food" on the planet is enough to make anyone sick.

Do you have a link to these reports? I'd like to read it.

I suggest looking up www.truthinlabeling.org for the reports on the monosodium glutamate. Additional sources can be looked up on a search engine, along with reports on high fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners. I suggest looking up several that are not from the same source so you can form a better opinion.

Well we live too long anyway. With over population a major problem and all the suffering we bring to other species, by crowding them out, destroying natural habitats, slower birth rates, and shortened average lifespan can be considered a blessing in many ways, it is all POVs.
