The Watchtower is simply a man-made organization that claims to be God's approved organization because if it didn't no one would want to become a Jehovah's Witness!
Victims are a considered a threat, and are dealt with accordingly by the Watchtower!

Bottom line is they will do whatever they feel like and flip flop on policy more times than a presidential candidate. If it does turn out to just be a local thing they are pushing then write to the society and say how badly you have been stumbled and are not sure how you will be able to return to the flock now. :)

Secondly, yes the policy has changed.
They snuck it in, unnoticed by many, in the KM school a few years back.
I was shocked when I first heard it.
