I studied that brochure 3 times and never realized that. They must skim over it. Way to point that out. Your kids sound very intelligent.

What I want to know is why they pronounce the name differently in different countries. My name is unusual, yet people from other countries all pronounce it the way I say it. I would think God would be a bit irritated by people not even attempting to say his name right, like it's not important. Hubby can't grasp this concept.

    Nice job, OM!

I loved this point: "1. My wife was certain to point out at the end of the study the many, many scriptures that talk about how important God's "name" is. Well then, if it's SOOO important, why couldn't this omnipotent God, the same god who has accurately preserved the Bible, (gag) have also preserved the pronunciation of his name. It's just one word right?"

This is a huge point that I got from that brochure. Study it carefully and you realize that the name was completely lost. How pathetic!

I also used to like to point out that the one thing we can be sure about is that the divine name was NEVER pronounced as Jehovah by the Jews or Christians!

Yep. I'm trying to learn from the collective wisdom of JWD.

You gave me a thumbs up and a BEER. That makes TWO brewskis you owe me now. ;-)

    Drew Sagan:

"Kids usually are only JWs by force, not by desire."

I just got done watching "Jesus Camp" on DVD. One of the extra features was a little 1 or 2 minute blip where the Mom was "explaining" how her kids weren't "forced" into becoming big-time Bible thumpers. Hmmmm. Let's see.... you're the parents... I'll leave it at that. (Except for I'll probably start a "Jesus Camp" thread.)

"OM, I must say that I totally disagree with your approach. I would get my kids out of
this sick cult as quickly as possible, allowing all the reproach it brought upon me."

Sad to say, you might be right. Life is not a dress rehearsal. The only thing I'll say in my defense is that I can't go back and try this approach once I "go off the deep end" of non-JW-loyal Aposta-Dad. But I really do appreciate your on-going "wake-up calls". Seriously. It provides good balance.

You summed up my mind-set with these words:

"If things don't work, you can say you tried this method."

"how do you get them to the family study and to participate?"

I've tried to make the family studies pretty few and far between over the years and also fairly upbeat (if you can believe that). Since I've started reading JWD, I've become more focused on actually accomplishing something, but I still try to remember that they're kids. Scary part: I'll still have flash backs and see myself as my DAD trying to BEAT knowledge into them. That's an internal red flag to chill out. Thanks for the reality check ex-nj. ;-)

"OM, I bet you've never done so much pre-study for a family study before. "

Amen sister!!! It really matters now!!

    Honesty:

"As a "prophet" (parenthesis denote "uninspired" and a legal disclaimere to follow) of the most high, I predict... speculate... insist...declare that there will soon be 4 more 'apostates' registering on JWD within a few years."

I hope your "gift of prophecy" proves true!!

    truthsearcher:

"I hope one day your family will all know how much you loved them to do this for them! (especially your wife)"

I hope she understands. that's one of the biggest internal conflicts I have about this whole JWD thing.

Thanks again to all for your kind words.

(I'm off to take my son to see "The Simpsons Movie". Think that will encourage the Borg mentality?)
