Actually in American football the ball is kicked during every special teams play -- the kickoff, the punt, the field goal and the point after touchdown. In our other popular sports that involve a ball (i.e. baseball and basketball) you don't deliberately contact the ball with your foot.

I also watched with fervor the Minnesota entry in the old North American Soccer League of the 1970's. I enjoyed it, and we in Minnesota had rowdy crowds of 50,000 come out to the games and do quite a bit of pre-game tailgating (i.e. drinking in the parking lot). The fact that the NASL was poorly administered and had to fold was certainly not the fault of the fans. It could have succeeded.

well chelsea were handed an outrageous referee decision in their favour against liverpool today. not that i care it meant a 1-1 draw so along with arsenal drawing then of the big 5 my team spurs had the best weekend. despite a dodgy linesman ruling against them

This was confirmed this morning on the radio station I listen to - their worst start since 1992 I think they said.

As a fanatical Red, the most annoying thing about this "Worst start since '92" is that Utd have battered all three teams they've played so far and only got 2 pts and 1 goal.

I'll stick with the American version. Have nothing against the original sport - but we know what we grow up with. Here in the US, if one was watching a soccer game and called it football [I know it is properly known as that everywhere else] the fans would wonder if you were a coin short of a pound.
It's all about perspective.
