Like everything else, they are selective to how a scripture applies. When it suits there needs.....Hey! Leo Greenlees is dead; just change the 2 witness rule.

Scully, that's quite something! It shows the elders have the power to believe whomever they want. Even if something sounds ridiculous, they can accept the testimony of 1 "witness" and ruin another's life and reputation.

Don't tell me about a 2 witness rule, I had about 10 different witnesses in my old hall, including pioneers, and Ministerial Servants, stay overnight with me in a car to establish that my ex-wife was staying with a "worldly" man at his home, almost every weekend. Time and again we presented the eveidence and time and time again, I was NOT made free and she was NOT punished. People would see them all over town together, eating, driving around, etc. and then staying at his house, and NOTHING was done. Elders are pieces of garbage as far as I see. I have very little respect for many of them. They weild their power how ever they feel like, depending on wind direction and what they ate for lunch...

Blues, if they want to believe you, they could. They could have 1 or 10 witnesses and if they choose to ignore something they will.

My comment, life is not fair or equitable and often times does not make sense. The debils in the details.
Sex is a major controlling point of religion, so they really want to work that worm.

she can state in writing that her spouse committed adultery AND she will be free to remarry IF the elders SIMPLY believe her!
Not necessarily true; I know of one sister who couldn't remarry because her ex-husband would never talk to the elders. I know of another who forgave her husband for cheating on her and he was reproved but a year later when he was still a violent bustardo and she moved out they wouldn't let her divorce him. I know of a couple - the JW bride got out of her last marriage by sleeping with her fiance, so they were both reproved but free to remarry. It's just a game and will depend entirely on how much your elders hate you.

Well the elders back in Libby Montana were not aware of this rule, Minimus, or should I say, this application of the rule. My best friend was separated from her husband back in the 70s, she had a boyfriend. They went to his house after he got off work one night and had sex in the living room. The next day she was called into a JC because THREE elders were watching them through the window in order to establish her guilt.
He was free to re-marry, btw.

Especially if a JW wife had an "unbelieving" husband, would the scenario be that the man would refuse to admit anything to a group of elders. Under such circumstances it was the "faithful" JW vs. the worldly guy. Who do you think they'd believe??
But the point is, once again, that 2 witnesses are not needed.

I knew some married JW couples, children of prominent elders, who would move out of the area, and later come back in a few years with new spouses and children. No one was ever reproved or DF'd. They would keep a low profile for a few years and then come back as though nothing had happened. They'd even have their positions as elders or ministerial servants when they returned.
I suspect the elders willingness to believe someone's story is very dependent on how popular the person or their family may be.

So the bottom line is, the 2 witness rule is NOT NEEDED in every case.
