In 1992, Hitchens wrote an article [14] for the US left-wing journal The Nation in which he called Mother Teresa "The Ghoul of Calcutta". He later narrated and co-wrote Hell's Angel, a documentary broadcast 8 November 1994 on Channel 4 in Britain, and expanded his criticism in a 1995 book, The Missionary Position. He despised the unquestioning adoration of the vast majority of Western commentators, which he felt judged her by her reputation, not by her actions. His particular qualms were with what he perceived as her lack of treatment for people, particularly children, placed in her care; her strong religious views on contraception and abortion , the latter of which she described as "the greatest destroyer of peace today" [15] ; and her "acceptance" of poverty, which took the form of encouraging the poor to embrace their poverty.
Hitchens asserts that Mother Teresa behaved like a political opportunist who adopted the guise of a saint in order to raise money to spread an extreme and aggressive version of Catholicism . He also condemns her for using contributions to open convents in 150 countries rather than establishing a teaching hospital , the latter being what he implies donors expected her to do with their gifts.
He also criticized her for what he considers to be less-than-honorable financial dealings: the pursuit and acceptance of donations from third world dictators, large donations accepted from Charles Keating , who was later convicted of fraud, racketeering and conspiracy; and the allocation of these donations away from treatment and towards furthering what Hitchens considered "fundamentalist" views. Hitchens's writings have earned him the ire of Roman Catholics; Brent Bozell , for example, called Hitchens and Aroup Chatterjee "notoriously vicious anti-Catholics" [16] .
During Mother Teresa's beatification process, Hitchens was called by the Vatican to argue the case against her. He testified in Washington, the role previously known as the " Devil's Advocate ", although John Paul II had previously abolished that position. Hitchens has satirically referred to his work in the case as the person chosen "to represent the devil pro bono " [17] .

The only criticism that can be laid at the feet of Mother Teresa, is that she had an overwhelming ambition to be the most loving and most kind of God's servants.

The countless little lives saved has to atone for such a "selfish " ambition as the Witchtower would no doubt call it.

Whatever her personal faith, her works proved what she was as a woman, and has to illuminate that faith for us. (" faith without works is dead")

All the dubs seem to do is declare how many of these little mites will die at Hamstergeddon even as they drop from their mothers birth canal.

As for ambition, pioneers want only to be the first into the baby fertilized paradise parody, and they dont care haw many peoples' faces they use as a doorstep to get there.

Ha, are you believing the B.$. that was the great "mother"? She was a mean old women who cared more about getting donations for the church then actually saving people's lives. The "hospitals" she ran were just places sick people went to be told to believe in the Catholic church! No help! Just believe! Sounds like the JW treatment. This is probably why she had such a struggle. She knew she was just doing something usless for names sake and the church.

Or those who were not saved by her and saw her as Good?

Remember the God of the Bible told his servants to kill babies and families all the time.

The JW parody of paradise will be fertilized mostly with the blood of children.

I would rather save the child of an unbeliever, than kill the children of a believer.

Nonsense. There is a whole litany of criticism than can be laid at her feet; her refusal to provide medicine or even painkillers to the sick and dying, her love of seeing people suffer, her misappropriation of funds, the unsanitary conditions in her "death houses", her opposition to abortion, contraception and divorce, her involvement in the politics of other countries, and so on.

The idea that she was a flawless saint who brought only good is certainly the popular perception, but in reality she was an unthinking mystic who probably harmed more than she healed.

Okay, how about this? Something is always better than nothing.

M.T. did something. It was tangible. If it helped distressed humanity it was positive.

Being "right" inside your head is as useless as being the most beautiful flower on Earth at the top of an obscure hill that nobody sees.

M.T. made a positive impact in the raw material of human misery.

Now, how about this? The Catholic baggage of ingorance about birth control and condoms was proliferated by M.T. as well. Also, a great of deal of money specifically given to her to help actual persons who are in distress was INSTEAD spent on Catholic institutions of propaganda.

Weigh the two on the great scale of Justice.
