Thanks everyone, I joined ancestry.com. What a value and I'm addicted! On one side it went back to 1008 and the otherside mid 1500's.
I am going back to find my husbands family names.

Yes, we are doing thar right now and it is so interesting and fun.
Go to Ancestry,com, Social Security Index, etc.............you will find a wealth of information.

Ancestry dot.com is great! I have a family member who has written a book on one line of the family that reaches far back into France. Kind of cool to see family names, you know nothing of, but belong to you online.
