I'm getting ready for a sit-down debate with my family in a couple days regarding the dubs, and I have most of the bases covered. However, I cant quite figure out what the Society had to gain from their involvement with the UN... besides their compulsive need to lie. Little help?

secret political clout. they wanted some political power, and couldn't be open about it, so, this is how they achieved it.

From what I've been reading they claim it was for a library card so they could research disaster regions and send relief. Ironically they had just changed their stance on superior authorities being man made governments after having demonized them all . Just so happened that the mandate for NGOs included the protection of the security consel via government officials . Also they bound their own hands as far as defaming other religions since an NGO could no longer discredit other NGOs and all other religions were one as well . They swore to uphold the UN mandate which they actually despise .Personally I think it was an attempt to protect their properties from oposers since they do have extreme persecution in countries such as malawie and former soviet republic of georgia . Alot of controversy over the issue .

The first question you have to ask your family is who does the Governing Body answer to. NO earthly entity. No JC no nothing having said that they thought they could curry favor with the world body to take the heat off them from nations trying to lable them as mind control cults. France was going to declare them as such and tax them at 60%. Not having to answer to anyone they thought by appearing mainstream like all other religions in becoming an NGO they would ward off such attacks. Ofcourse they had no intention of informing the Rank and File and through their Arrogance they thought no one would know... Library pass for what the intensive articles in the AWAKE or Watchtower... Please these are written on 5th grade level. When have you ever seen so much as a scolarly work come out of the WTS requiring a library pass to the UN's library. A Weekly Reader would do...

I don't think it's that kind of library where you have a bunch of fiction non fiction stuff . It's probly one where you can find updates on world affairs. In any event they had no buisness there at all .

LoL no, it wasn`t for no library card.

The reason why the WTS joined the UN was to be able to stand under the UNs protective umbrella. At this time, the early 90s, the WTS saw which way their organisation was heading. Enlisting numbers in the western world dropped dramatically. The newly baptised were primarily jw-kids. But: In third-world countries, and south-America and eastern Europe, there was great potential. In these countries, there are more people without higher education (and consequently - a less developed BS-detector...) - and they are poorer, with little or no internet-access. The perfect ground for the WTS-cult. But alas, because of poorly developed, little (or no) democracy in these countries, religious freedom (which is what the WTS-virus needs to gain territory) was scarce. The solution? Join the most powerful organisation in the world, the one organisation pushing for democracy and religious freedom everywhere.

That`s why they did it. And all the "scarlet-coloured harlot riding the beast"-propaganda was swept under the rug faster than you could say "governing body"... The funniest part of this is all the dubs around the world, who have no clue as to what went on...and they still believe in that great Crooklyn-hoax, the WTS.

Let me see if I have this all correct, going to the YMCA's gym-big no no. Going to the UN's library-not a big deal? Wow, that light sure gets brighter... kinda hurts my eyes.

I tend to push people to this essay as it may may help:

    http://corior.blogspot.com/2006/02/united-nations-disassociates.html

The essay provides a possible motive.

More importantly there are examples in the leadership's prescribed doctrine on not associating and/or not supporting the United Nations are as follows:

    - an article titled "Their Refuge-A Lie!" in the Watchtower magazine of June 1, 1991 (pages 15-20),

    - an article titled "Can an Image Bring Peace and Security" in the Watchtower magazine of December 1, 1976 (page 711)

    - an article titled "The Worship of the "Wild Beast" - Why True Christians Refuse" in the Watchtower magazine of October 15, 1976 (pages 632- 636),

All articles show that becoming involved, supporting or acquiescing to the principals of the scarlet coloured wild beast (ie. the UN) was and still is considered something for false religion.

A further detailed review of the 1991 Watchtower article shows Paragraph 10 asks how false religion was involved in the United Nations. The answer was found in paragraph 11 where no less than no less than twenty-four Catholic organizations are represented at the UN. The answer appeared weak compared to the 1976 Watchtower articles.

Paragraph 11 of the Watchtower 1991 article quoted from chapter 6, paragraph 1, page 45 of the book called "New Genesis, Shaping a Global Spirituality" (ISBN # 1-680465-04-3), Garden City, New York, Doubleday, Image Books, 1982, 1984 by Robert Muller. Robert Muller's article was titled "Prayer and Meditation at the United Nations".

Reading the Muller quote, one observes that the Watchtower 1991 article left out the second sentence of the Muller paragraph. The second sentence states "All major world religions are accredited to the United Nations as non-governmental organizations." This excluded sentence describing non-governmental organizations would actually make the quote in paragraph 11 and thus the answer to paragraph 10 significantly stronger. The sentence's exclusion in the 1991 article provides evidence the Watchtower was quietly seeking the exact same relationship that false religion had with the United Nations in the 1991-1992 timeline.
