    "What are signs of gluttony?"

This is a perfect example of how the Watchtower gets people to start looking at their brother in a critical way. They 'feed" this thinking to the sheep, who in turn, become judgmental. But it happens because the WT. puts it into their heads to see if a person could be a glutton.

Regarding the elder telling the anorexic she must eat or get df'd, it does not surprise me. They are soooo stoopid.

    Fatness is Freedom!

Skinny JW's of the world, abandon your low-carb, low-cal, high-fiber, hoodia-swallowing ways and get your life given back to you!

I know 3 very thin elders who used to go to 'all you can eat' joints and have eating contests. They ate so much, I'm suprised they didn't get asked to leave

They do not APPEAR to be gluttonous, but they are.

Should they be disfellowshipped, or should we skip the appearence part of this?

Warlock, you make a powerful point! At core, most "sins of the flesh" are all about appearance. If the "sinner" does not look as if they're "sinning", no problem. So, if you can hide your gluttony or alcohol-excess, you're virtually off the hook. There are some seemingly lucky individuals who can habitually gorge themselves with food and not put on weight. Similarly, there are so many individuals who can binge drink several times a week and still hold down a high powered job and "run" a family (and congregation!). No problem.

It's interesting to speculate that the most common time so-called "invisible" "sins" come to light is not by virtue of conscience-led confession, but being caught in the act. E.g., an elder having an affair with another JW female may be caught out because his wife "discovers" a suggestive text message on his cell phone. She confronts him. He can't weasel out of it, so confesses and it's all out in the open with guns ablazing.

It's all about appearances - pure and simple. Conscience-led be damned.

    Great point, Minimus.

The thing that gets me is that JWs will go off on "society" nowadays having problems with obesity as one sign of how wicked it is and how it will soon end. But they ignore the fact that the folks in their own congregation are following the same societal trend.

interesting side note--the ad displayed for me on this page is a link to some kind of plus-size dating website.
