Almost started a topic about this to but I am too lazy.
I think I have read that the Society teaches that, technically, Jehovah is presently only a kind of grandfather to those with an earthly hope, and that only those of the 144,000 anointed class can strictly regard Him as their Heavenly Father.
Your not dreaming, I absolutely remember the grandfather reference to the earthly hope JW's. (might have been a talk though?)

The society has always taught there are two classes the heavenly class and the earthly class. This teaching started early with the society more or less after 1919. What prompt this teaching was the fact they had a number of people then associated with the society that hadn't recieved the Holy Spirit they just did not seem to have the biblical interest and dedication as those that did.
This latter group was lovingly label the "excuse class"! Once again trying to come up with a logical biblical answer to this group, that is, making the bible fit into the experience the "Great Crowd" was born and the annoncement was made of this "new light".
The society knew a person could get to heaven without recieving the Holy Spirit, that is, being born again as new creation or a son of God. So where were these folk to live this excuse class that were not fully dedicated to God?
So the plot thickens, if they are not sons of God what are they? Will to no surpize the term son of God is not used regarding the old prophets and not often or at all do we hear them speaking of God as their heavenly Father, but rather the God of Abraham and so on.
So the relationship becomes tenuous to say the least. We now have sons of God, that is, the body of Christ raised up with him seated in heavenly places, brothers of the now reigning King Christ Jesus. This group will rule with Christ; their postion are ambassadors for Christ; there job is to adminster the Spirit of God not the physical law. So they are out of buisness. so to speak, because there are no more of the anointed class to administer the Spirit too! They closed that class out according to their numbers slamed the door in heaven for Christ.
So what do we do? Will the Jews were under the Law they were faithful to God and had faith, so let bring back the Law to govern this "excuse class" to control them because they don't have the Spirit that gives freedom.
Lo and behold a modern day nation of Jews is born! Take out the "e" and we have JW's. So there are millions of people that live by Law prove their righteousness by living up to the rules of the anointed class and the old testiment laws.
They are not allowed personal association with Christ Jesus or Jehovah God because that requires being born again by Holy Spirit so there only association with Christ must come from those that are the body of Christ that have the Spirit and personal relationship with him. If you can't eat of Christ body then of course you can eat from the body of anointed that is their spiritual food through books other then the bible.
So the modern day anointed class becomes the mediator between Christ God and the Great Crowd better known as the Excuse Class.
Once again proving why those of the Jewish class do not have a personal relationship with God or His Son but they do have a relationship with the GB. Susquently when Christ that is transformed into their GB fails them they have no Spirit of God to comfort them or teach they must fail back on the teachings of GB. That is why they lose all faith in God and Christ and believe they cannot be a true faith on earth.
A Jew had the truth of the bible they don't often convert to another religion they are God's choosen people it is no surprize neither do ex-witnesses. The only problem is both groups have never experience the truth of God in Christ Jesus through His Holy Spirit
Simply put eating of Christ body is not an opition for Jew/JW's.
I remember a WT study a long time ago and there it was said that that Jesus is the mediator onlyof the 144k and that Jehovah is father to the 144k. Only by extension does the great crowd receive the blessings, that is only if they obey the FDS's organisation on earth. It was as Gopher posted.
What comes to mind, is the change or "new light" regarding "Approved Associates" not being approved by jah until water baptism thereby being recognized as 'sons of god'. So the title was changed to "Unbabtized Publisher". I think this new light came before the light about jah being the father of only the 144k.
What I do remember is feeling disappointed during both those wt studies.

Well that the issue man cannot control God or His Spirit now can they? So it can do as it please much to the dissappointment of most groups. It doesn't need mans approval to help someone or chose them as a child of God before or after baptizm.
Man cannot disfellowship someone from God or state God has not forgiven them now can they?
So if you cannot control the wind and it blows where it wants their is no earthly control over those born of spirit accept God. That does not create much of a managable business now does it? It doesn't allow for quality control and positions of power.
So being part of the Great Crowd provides all the things a group needs ot control the masses.
