i just spoke to a friend who was a witness years ago when we were kids and she told me an interesting thing.

when she went to the hospital to discuss things due to her being pregnant and going to have a baby at this hospital , they told her that the brisbane and gold coast hospitals were no longer going to offer jw's blood fractions. they are sick and tired of all the unclear sayings and that ppl dont even know what they will accept or not , and they are having so many problems that they have a new form to be filled out. its blood transfusion or NO blood transfusion,, no part products , and they have to fill in a form that is that black and white. i say good on em, what works for 1 jw and not another is no longer an issue for these hospitals,,

    is this happening anywhere else??

I have thought about this too. It's OK, It's not OK. Conscience, and we can disfellowship you. OK here, but not here. The Society, doesn't want any part of it, so they print slippery stuff, and let the little elders deal with it.

No wonder this hospital is doing this, and probably more to follow.

It's about time someone put their foot down on this issue. However, it should have been the rank and file JWs, not a 3d party. I am interested to know and hope you will tell us how the organization deals with this, as well as the r&f. Thanks so much.

However, if blood fractions are available and not used, when a witness will accept them, who would be responsible if the individual dies?

Doesn't a medical institution have to use what technology is available, and accepted by the patient, to save a life?

I hate the blood policy and worry about my family all the time. However, I was successful in convincing my wife that blood fractions are ok. I would hate to have her die anyway because the hospital would refuse to provide the fractions.

I think the issue is more clouded in QLd because they have different paperwork handed out at the JW meetings to the other States because Qld'rs have different state laws.

Over here all blood is fractioned for transfusion anyway, something which the HLC et al seem unable to grasp. I also know of a local consultant haematologist who also became so exasparated by the whole JW blood issue that she phoned their HQ in London for an explanation of how their policy worked. They were clueless and totally unable to explain it to her.

At our local hospital a few years ago a JW woman haemmorhaged in childbirth after refusing a transfusion. Her non JW husband was left without a wife and the baby without a mother. All down to the confused policy and the "assistance" of the HLC. As a consequence, they're not very popular.

I can understand the frustration but I wonder what a doctor will do when he has a dying patient and a treatment that is likely to be effective and that would also be acceptable to the patient. It is a strange doctor who would stand on policy and refuse to give it . Who would be responsible for the patients death?

Btw, following Clam's post , I am struck as to how the WT always tells the flock that the HLC is held in such high regard by the doctors, how the medical profession comes to them for advice and info. on blood [yes really! that's what they say]

well, my friend said they insisted that its blood or no blood,,, no in between anymore, so if they signed off as strictly no blood, then if they died it would be their personal decision and the hospital would be free from blame. i will keep you posted. She told her mother , who in turn told an elder, and he knew nothing about it. He rang her and left a message for her to ring him back. Wonder if he will even contact the hospital to find out what is going on with the new form.
