I know we've got computers, cell phones and supermarkets, but was life back then better?

Depends on who you are and it depends on what you value in life.
I am glad to live today.

Of course it was! (I was born in 1952 LOL).
In fact, just today (and I mean this), as I was digging through some boxes, I found a 1965 and 1967 KM, with my Mom's writing of name name across the top.
One of the books I found is going to Farkel (he begged me LOL)(The Babylon book, with the questions booklet).

I dont know about the 1950's, but the 1970's and 80's were much better times, people were more social back then, everything is so impersonal nowadays, Cell phone use is way too excessive. People are too busy in their lives to make new friends. Im 36 years old and I can definitely see a difference in the world since I was a kid. The only reason I wouldnt want to go back in time to the 70's and 80's is I was a JW back then, other than that they were great times, and the pop music was so much better back then.

we really did go out and play and kids were seldom overweight. we went to gym class and only having your period would get you out of exercises and volleyball. When you were really bad at something, they told you.

junction-guy, do you remember when we had congregation picnics? And circuit assemblies at local schools? And the ambience of the building of assembly halls, and quick-builds? I know you do.
That's part of what I was feeling when I posted what I did above: Those were great, and I mean GREAT, memories, of what life was what then...even as I felt when I was laying on the floor in the early 60s and reading the "old" volumes and books, as my Mom was ironing my clothes...and I told her, in a flash of 'revelation,' that I had decided to go to Bethel.
HOWEVER!!!!! I had that particular feeling at the time, and it permeated my life for the next 40 years.
My meaning is: It's almost like going back to to fetal position...if that makes any sense.

Some things I liked about the 1950's: Life was slower. Department stores and grocery stores closed on Sunday (there were often Saturday night specials in the meat department). Sunday was a day that you could visit your friends and neighbors--even drop in on them--and it was OK. Not so many gadgets--but they weren't available so how could we miss them?
Some things that were not so good: If a woman was raped or a child was molested, it was probably her fault. Most women wore dresses, even at home, and no schoolgirl wore jeans or slacks to school--at least in our area.
