    JAPAN LOSES OVER 600 CONGREGATIONS

    Japan since the 1970''s has had amazing publisher increases! Every year the number of Jehovah's Witnesses shot up by many thousands. This peaked in 1998, since then the number of Witnesses and Congregations has continued to drop!

    1998- Pubs 222,912 Congs. 3,802 {6 Years later}
    2004- Pubs 217,555 {-5,357 Pubs} Congs 3,164 {-638 Congs}

    Over 6 years what happened to the 5,357 publishers and 638 Congregations!! This is a mystery like the Burmuda triangle.

    I would urge tho caution on accepting the correlation at face value...it looks like a first world - third world divide and there are a whole host of other factors that can come into play that have to do with differences in terms of education, socioeconomic status, etc.

    Actually it is not a mystery at all. A reduction of 5,357 publishers over 638 congregations would mean the average cong size was only
    8.4 pubs/cong

    The reality is the average cong size increased from 59 pubs/cong to 69 pubs/cong. If the 3,164 congs in 2004 averaged only 59 pubs as in 1998 then the true reduction of cong's is shown to be only around 54.
    This is really about the consolidation of congregations.

    The rest is just more boring math explained in detail here http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/11/141694/2546498/post.ashx#2546498

    After doing the table I tend to agree. There has been a significant decline in growth in the third world countries as well, so other factors are in play here.

    The military junta in Myanmar (Burma) is afraid of the Internet, too. One of the first things they did was shut-off phone & internet service to the entire country during their crack-down.

    Somebody started a thread recently about the WT 'banning large gatherings of JW's' except for official meetings & assemblies. Sounds a lot like what Myanmars junta of dictators have done.
