They have repeatedly taught their members a very distored and biased view of their past.
There is a wonderful paper on the net called "Historical Idealism and Jehovahs Witnesses" which documents dozens of times they have lied and/or streached the truth about their organizations history. It proves they are liars beyond a doubt. -

This is a lie. You can not "restore" something, such as the name Jehovah 237 times in the Greek Scriptures if it never existed, or there is no proof of it. Websters below will prove it. I like the "painting" example. You can create a painting, you can "restore" a painting, but can not restore a painting that never existed.

recently there was a lie cited in the REV CLIMAX book where it stated that WTS taught that the beginning of problems would start in 1914, when actually they were printing that the END was coming in 1914.

When they joined the UN - They lied. They either lied to the UN and said that they would promote them favorably, or lied to all JW's by going back on their 1963 resolution denouncing the UN.
They had to lie one way or the other.

They didn't actually "join the UN". They affiliated with it as an NGO, not as a member.
But they apparently didn't gain anything from their 11-year affiliation with the UN.
I think it was for the same reason they sought to gain "public corporation" status in Germany --- to keep up with the other churches. They are trying to get on equal social footing with those other churches, without actually providing any charitable or social services that those other churches do.
That's just my take on it.
