I was at work yesterday and was asked if I wanted to put $5 down on a square the guys had going on for NASCAR. I had been asked before, and always said "no thanks," but this time, I had some cash on me (which is a rare thing), so I decided I might as well try it. So there you have it, I gambled. It was the first thing I've ever done in real life that I could get disfellowshipped for (excluding posting on here and making anti-JW Youtube videos as well as writing atheist content on my "secret" blog).
Secondly, I have a few questions about voter registration. Does one have to register every year or does one registration mean that's it for life? Do I have to register under a certain political party? If I register and do not affiliate myself with one, does that limit me to "independent" candidates? If I register as a Democrat am I not allowed to vote for any Republicans, and vice-versa? What's the advantage of registering under a certain party?
I did my first "bad" thing...question about voter registration

I registered when I renewed my DL.
Also became an organ donor.
It was quick and painless.
It's my understanding that you can vote for whoever you like, in spite of having registered with a specific party.
I don't gamble apart from having a small business, that's a big enough gamble in and of itself.

B_D,
I registered in June when I renewed my driver's licence. You have to declare a party to vote in a primary. For the general election, you can vote for anyone you want to. At least that is how I understand it anyway. This November will be my first time voting since leaving the Borg.

I registered to vote when I renewed my driver's license and I only did that one time. I've voted several years now.

Depends on your area.
A funny thing happened here. They (Democratic leadership in the county and city) didn't want to let registered Republicans and Indies vote in the Mayoral Democratic Primary. They knew it would be close for the incumbent. I don't know how legal that was.
It was decided by 1,000 votes in a city of 220,000. Close! -

Forgot to add something in the evil politician-lawyers' defense:
Since the Republicans did not even field a candidate, this primary was the de facto mayor election. -

Thanks for the answers! I plan to make this November my first voting year too! Can you change your party affiliation? If so, is it just a matter of re-registering under the new party?

Voter registration last as long as 1 you stay where you register 2 miss four elections in a row and you may have to reregister.

Actually, they ask why you want to fade from their party. They send two of the older men to your house to talk to you about reconsidering.

Voter registration laws vary from state to state. In almost all cases you need to be registered some amount of time before an election, you can (but do not have to) declare a party (which may or may not limit how you vote in primaries). You can always vote for anybody in a general election. Most places your registration is good until you move.
There is usually a website or phone number at the local elections office that will fill in the specifics for your location.
