it takes awhile for correspondance from the Society to trickle back to the local yokels.... give 'em time...give 'em time... (I am somewhat familiar with the behind the scenes procedures in Correspondance and Service (did not serve there myself, did talk to someone who did..who filled me in) When they come around, just tell em: "do what you want" and politely, or not depending on your mood at the time... shut the door in their faces..

you owe them no explanation...just as the WTS tells new bible studies to write a letter to their churches when they leave, you just followed their own advice...in reverse.... lol

Welcome Tere, surely the JWs overemphasise their preaching work to the extend that it becomes a central part of their identity and not to preach the JW gospel becomes equivalent to not being a JW though otherwise a non preaching person may hold high moral standards.

One of your stories reminded me of something. My daughter when she was a baby never slept through the night - hardly slept at all at night- anyway i often uded to walk her round in the pram hoping to get her to sleep -we are talking 1 2 3 a.m. here , and we used to see the daughter of an elder and her then bf - now husband walking alone unchaparoned and very much in love. You guessed nothing said. Her dad was an a very severe elder.

Ps my daughter now 14yrs was worth every red eyed minute and can sleep forever!

very funny - you do sound well-adjusted. and it is a really STUPID religion, some of the nitpicking is absolutely unbelievable. I recently heard the nauseating story about the courtship between a JW I used to know, late middle-age woman, and a very old JW man. She wouldn't go anywhere with him alone, because she didn't want to stumble anyone. It's amazing to me that the congregation couldn't just accept that by now she probably knows how to behave and wasn't likely to throw her clothes off and tackle him to the floor at the first chance she got. Yuck. Phooey. Anyway, she did the "chaperone" thing to prove her superior righteousness. "See how pure I am? When even an idiot wouldn't give us a second glance, and after three previous marriages, I'm still protecting my purity."
