Have you ever refused a "Privilege"

I refused to give a bible study to some kid. I figured that many tried and didn't succeed.

I also didn't feel ready for that, nor did I want to drag him to each meeting after that, since he had no family in the Org.

The elders weren't happy with my decision.

Bottom line, you can't say no, without any consequences.

Towards the end I refused to give talks even in the back. I was even asked just to be a householder for some and I would say no. I was looked down upon but I didn't care because I didn't want to get up "teaching" things I didn't believe in.

Clyde was one of the first brothers to be considered when the elder arrangement was instituted around 1972. After the second meeting he came home and told me he was turning the position down. He said there was too much politics. He did accept the position of ministerial servant which was taken away a few years later because his field service hours were down.

Back then, it was unthinkable to turn down such a position of elder. It caused lots of gossip in the congregation, and I admit I was a bit devastated. Now I know it would have caused tons of problems. Clyde is not a "yes" man and never could be, and that's what they were looking for, yes men.

They wanted to make me a MS but I "refused" in a way because I wouldn't bump my field service hours despite repeated pleas. I honestly didn't want to be in any sort of leadership position when I had doubts myself.

When I just moved into my latest congregation in May I didn't bother asking to be on the school and nobody's bothered to bring the matter up so I'm satisfied.

When I was on the way out, one week an elder told me that I was in danger of losing my 'priveleges' as a MS but the following week another elder told me that I was being considered for eldership!

    Obviously guided by holy spirit!

I was an ace speaker and was never given any privileges ever. I was kept down, as much as the PO could possibly have tried. He made a vigourous effort for years. I'm glad though, cuz I don't call them privileges. That's bullshit. I call them burdens.

Once in February they shoved an auxiliary pioneer form in my face (they did that to the whole congregation). It was a drive to get 100% of all people to pioneer during March, April, and May. Needless to say, I saw it for what it was. Had I succeeded one month, they would have expected me out there every month for good. That was a wasted application since I did not fill it in. We did get something like half the congregation filling theirs in.

I also got a pledge form for a Kingdumb Hell build shoved in my face. This was the second of those things on that project that we got, and we were supposed to take it home and fill it out, and then bring it to the book study. I "forgot" mine at home (on purpose), and it was not filled in. So they went and shoved another one in front of me, and wanted me to fill it in on the spot, right in front of the other book study members (presumably so everyone would know how much I was to give, chide me for not giving enough, and hound me to follow through). I merely took that one home and missed the next week's meeting in their entirity so they would forget about it.

I often turned the privilege down of cleaning the hall and mowing the lawn. I had offered to pay a service to do the work and the BOE said that

would be untheocratic. So fine. They could do it. I wasn't going to anymore.
