If I'm not mistaken... I first heard 'Muskrat Love' on an America album, early 70's - anyone else? I may very possibly be losing my mind, gradually, synapse by frizzelling synapse... haha

Never really liked them much. I thought they were over the top 'buble gum'. He seemed to lack any personality at all and she way overcompensated for that fact. Anyone remember the TV show they had for one season? Sonny and Cher they were not, but the music was a little infectious. I mean, come on - who can take offense to furry little muskrat critters inlove? LOL.

I was more into rock then - Aerosmith, Led Zeppelin, Ted Nugent, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band, Bob Dylan, BlackOak Arkansas, 38 Special, Rush, Nazareth, Pink Floyd, J. Geils Band... Heart, Reo Speedwagon, Frank Zappa, ZZ Topp, Joe Walsh, Jackson Brown - my taste varied wildly, but always rock. Saw THE rock 'n' roll legend himself, Chuck Berry, in '72 - that was wild! Of the many concerts I went to, he, ZZTopp and Joe Walsh are my favorites.

I kinda like country rock nowadays.

Ahhh, the memories. Thanks for the trip!

MUSKRAT LOVE is the one C&T song I personally couldn't bear to hear.

But to answer Watkins' question, this song goes back farther than the group America. Here's the Wikipedia entry on it:

"Muskrat Love" is a 1972 song by Willis Alan Ramsey. It originally appeared on his album Willis Alan Ramsey under the title "Muskrat Candlelight." It was covered by the band America in 1973 and then by Captain & Tennille in 1976 where it reached #4 in the charts. The 1976 recording features sound effects created with a synthesizer to evoke the imagined sound of muskrats courting. A parody of the song called "Hamster Love" was written and performed by a group called Big Daddy and included on Dr. Demento's 30th Anniversary album.

I just found a HILARIOUS parody called "Hamster Love" by the group Big Daddy. This was on Dr. Demento's 30th anniversary album.

    You gotta see this:

Thanks so much, Gopher, for that research. Some memories from the 70's are a bit, shall I say, 'hazy'? Lol. I thought I remembered thinking that C&T stole that song from America - haha - what a steal, huh? Anyway, I liked their rendition better than anything that ever came from the Captain and his Tennille. It's a silly song - but cute!

Gonna download that video - it takes an hour for a 3 1/2 minute run on this dial-up.

    Thanks again!

Yeah all right, Leolaia. It was the most played pop song of the 1970's. Too much of a good thing ruined it for me. (Unlike "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks, which was too much of a bad thing.)

I do like Neil Sedaka, the song's writer. I like that Toni gave him credit, singing "Sedaka is back" in the closing part of the song.

I understand how overplay can still ruin a song even THIRTY years later. Madonna's "Crazy For You" was an okay song but the horrid overplay it received in the mid-'80s still makes me retch today if I catch a few notes of it.
