Welcome to you and I'm so glad you posted! I'm terribly sorry about the loss of your friend. I never had the pleasure of meeting her but I can see that she was loved by so many, including yourself. She obviously was a terrific lady that will be missed.

I'm happy that you were able to extricate yourself from the witnesses, there is so much more to be enjoyed in this life than what they preach.

Again welcome to you and I hope you'll post often.

Julie, did you read the part of Crisis of Conscience where it talks about some people who leave the organization end up trading in their old set of values for a completely new set of values, i.e. smoking, pre-marital sex, and such, so it turns out that they're really not that much better off spiritually than when they were in the cult.

Well, I do some of those things now, but I think I'm better off now than as a lonely, frustrated JW waiting for the "new system" to bring me the perfact husband I've never been able to find in this system. A lot of JWs are still waiting for that, but they are in for a disappointment.

Spiritually speaking, I suppose I'll deal with that in time. I still believe in God, but after almost 36 years in one organised religion, I am wary of getting involved in another one, at least in the near future.

Welcome Julie. I'm very sorry for your loss. You will fit right in here...great group of people. I've seen more love here, in the past few days, than I ever saw in my old congregation. I was moved to tears with the love and concern for Trev and Linda.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, all the good ones, are leaving the society. And they are showing up, right here, on JWD.

I was kind of, not exactly though in the same bout as you. My girl who Im with now was raised a witness but had been out for years when I started dating her. Being with her really shined some light on me. I realized that there are some really good non-jw people out there. Made me realize you have to actually get in the water to judge whether it is cold or not. Iv also read COC. It was a good read. In the middle of In Search of Christian freedom. We'll see where that goes.
