Wasn't Leonard Skynyrd the name of a teacher at one of the member's schools? That's what I heard.

Lyrnyrd Skynryd was named after one of their favorite schoolteachers, Leonard Skinner. (I think he may have been a science teacher.)

They could have been named the "Plasmic Prophylactic Platters", for all I care.....great music, one of my favorite CD's in my CD case, and in my iTunes library.
Another great classic group also connected with something long and skinny (or fat depends on the roller) - The Doobie Brothers.
They just don't make them like they used to, as the saying goes. 70's rock, probably my favorite genre.
