A brother from my old hall was giving the talk so my brother (who lives with me and has no idea how I feel) signed us up for hospitality. I decided I should at least make an appearance to stave off the storm a little. Man, I can barely stand being there. I spent the entire meeting finding lies in the Watchtower (there was a doozy about how JWs before 1914 expected Jesus to return that year even though they really thought that Jesus already returned in 1874). I realized that if more JWs knew their true history, the numbers who definitely go down, big time.
Actually sat through a whole meeting for the first time in 6 months

how could you do that without wanting to stick sharp things in your eyes and run screaming out of the building? I guess the most long-lasting effect on me from the WTBTS is a horror of being trapped in a lecture or classroom for longer than about 20 minutes. I start panic breathing and looking for an exit.

How long did it take to de-program the meeting out of your mind?
The last meeting I went to was the 2004 annual REJECT THE CHRIST Banquet. I was physically ill for 2 weeks after seeing that public exhibition of heresy.

Wow, I think I'm having flashbacks. Even after 20 years of no forced feeding of that stuff, I still feel panic at the thought of someone else having to do it.
Shake it off. Just shake it off.

this is true, and I have found from experience that the young ones in the org have no idea about the history, they have taken all the old books from the libraries in all the congregations. Their parents don't really know either.
I think it is important that they be educated in the beginnings of the JW's in this early century as only that way can they make an honest decision based on accurate knowledge.

Family is a good enough reason to attend. I think you are out of denial and that is a good sign!

I go to the memorial every now and again but leave as they pass the emblems around and reject them ,as if that's a good thing ........ Nothing like going to a church supper and being told you're not supposed to eat or drink anything......... Now that's insanity in the first degree...
