College: Watchtower Counsel Is Poison And Wrong

There's no doubt that inflation can kill the economy quicker than a nuclear blast. It seems at the moment, that the prices of houses in several States has peaked (thanks to higher interest rates) and are either going to level out, or drop somewhat----too many foreclosers happening right now and people simply can't afford $1,500 mortgages.

If Georgie Boy doesn't soon get his head out of his ass, I can definitely see the USA heading for another Depression. Spending over a trillion dollars on a war that is doing nothing except making his rich oil buddies even richer is pure insanity and thank god he can only run for two terms. It makes you wonder though if this isn't what the government wants: to get rid of the well-off middle class and go back to way things used to be: the very rich and the very poor.

With that said, yes, education is essential to the young ones but the Governing Body just doesn't give a damn. After all, their food, clothing, shelter, vacations, travel, dental, and medical bills are all paid for by the R&F who are having an increasingly difficult time feeding their own, let alone these guys. I'm wondering if once Teddy kicks the bucket (which can't happen soon enough), if anything will change. Surely there's got to be a couple of members of the Governing Body who realize that they're destroying people's lives.

I'm getting my degree now when of course I should have done it 20 years ago.......well, better late than never.

I just graduated with my BS in May. I keep thinking I am fifteen years late. Now I'm in grad school. I had to strongarm my daughter into transferring from a two year college to an out of state four year university. She now thanks me. The friends gave a hard time when I was working on my two year degree in the 90s.

The WTBTS opposes college because they fear anyone who thinks for himself.

Have you ever thought about the thousands of dollars of lost earnings?

One sister told me there won't be a need for a nurse in the new system. I told her there won;t be a need for a bunch of secretaries either.

    Yes, their counsel is wrong.

My daughter graduated #2 in her class, was a National Merit Scholar, will be receiving an IB Diploma in December, and is in a university on a full scholarship. She wanted to pioneer - was encouraged by the congregation, but I said college first.

I regret not finishing college; I was determined that my child was not going to fall through the cracks.

Another topic that gets the blood pumping.

Fortunately I have succeeded in business despite not having a college education, but I still regret being disallowed from continuing my education past high school. It has been a struggle to get ahead, and I still am not able to pursue work in larger corporations because of my lack of a degree.

When I attended highschool growing up in Canada, my parents were informed by the principal that my national testing program score for my age group ranked #1 in the province and was in the top 10 in the country....yet despite the potential...there was no way I was going to be permitted to continue my education...unfortunately the anti college/university hoopla was at it's height when I was graduating highschool.

Instead of doing what all normal kids were doing after graduating from highschool, I got part time work which enabled me to regular auxilliary pioneer. What a blessing. GRRRRRRR!

It's all water under the bridge now. I am thankful of where I am in life right now, and am happy to be able to perform a small service in the name of common decency, and free minds from the grip of the WT.

Give us lemons, we'll make lemonaide.

    Peace to all.

Yep, this topic pushes my buttons. $12,000 a year---is this a freaking jole? A job making minimum wage is not enough to pay bills. It is teenage spending money.

Can you imagine a married couple with two children and a house (that fabled American dream) paying for that on minimum wage? It's impossible.

Next time you stop at McDonald's for breakfast you are adding fuel. Everyone who doesn't make a living wage should stay the hell home for one day (everyone all at once). There would be many inconviences.

    I am a 3rd generation JW.

My father did not go to college, but pioneered. He would have been a great engineer. Instead, he worked at sweatshops, pioneered, and finally went to technical school in the late 1970's (after 1975). He even finished a few math classes at the local college, and got a technical school certification. In the middle of all this, he landed a job at an airline, and then another airline, and now has two pensions! After getting the technical school certification, my father stopped beating my mother. I think it had alot to do with a rise in his confidence.

My mother did not go to college, but raised a family. After having 2 husbands that beat her, including my father, divorcing and remarrying, she went to a community college & got a 2 year (associates) degree. This was also in the late 1970's (after 1975). She worked for many years, and her extra income enabled them to pay off their house in 5 years. She did not get beat up after she got her degree. Seems to command some respect - and a fear that she had the means to leave.

My siblings did not go to school. They were pre-1975 when it was their time. One finally got a 2 year (associates) degree. She does something that is completely unrelated, but her degree got her in the door. The other two finally got their GED, and went to a few months of technical school each. They now scrape by.

So, when I was growing up....both my parents thought I should go to college. I had to live at home. I did not have to go to meetings, as I did not beleive. I did. I'm glad I did. I met an ex-JW at college, and ...the rest is history.

Mary, are you saying he needs an "optirectomy?"

This topic really gets my blood boiling!

These people have no accountability for gullible people they have damaged by this anti-education stand. The poverty they are pushing is not for them. Just somebody else. And, any hypocrite who ALREADY got their education who gets on a podium and preaches to young people not to get theirs should drop dead! On a slightly related note: Could it be that these people are looking for an ignorant class of JW people to work for their businesses at slave wages? There is nothing I despise more than a JW who tries to exploit other JWs. This is adding insult to injury and I hope these people get theirs.

One can only hope that everybody there wakes up now, stops dead in their tracks and refuses to put another penny in a contribution box. When all the older ones pass away (and these are the ones with the most disposable income I might add), then let's see what kind of money the struggling people in the prime of life with kids to support will contribute.

As a punishment, what I want to see is the bastards who write this shit out on their asses on the street looking for a job and see what they find in late middle age or older with no college education under their belt!

Then I want to hear their thoughts on higher education.
