Was the WTS correct?

Personally I think there will be attempts at banning it, but don't see how it could be enforced. What is needed is education and religion could end up banning itself. The problem is ignorance. Ignorance isn't the same thing as uneducated. Ignorance is a choice. How many of you have watched the 1hr video "The Naked Truth"? Anyone with the slightest desire to educate their self can't watch it without experiencing an epiphany. If you haven't seen it you owe it to yourself to spend an hour of your time to see it. It's available all over the web for free.

religion banned . Banning an idea is impossible and only leads to propogation of said idea. If ever correct direction and right thinking come from deluded zeolots then the world will be very different than it has ever been in history.

A group of people in love with thier own thinking (or lack) is incapable of possessing acurate knowledge . An accurate picture can only be obtained by lucid observation and clarity of thought based on a view made as broad as possible by contact with as much data as possible from as many sources as possible.

    So WT correct? Not possible

I really like that...keeping it in my file of quotes.

The current friction between religion and the world government extends back to the time of the Enlightenment (the 18 th century) and the subsequent introduction of the ideology of modernism. This time period came with the price of people beginning to feel that religious beliefs were not as trustworthy as once believed, and as a result governments that replaced monarchies often reflected tenets of this sort in their views.

The Witnesses did not come about until the end of the 19 th century, and most of their prophecies are based on viewing things from their own perspective. Also, their description of ‘the waters of Babylon drying up’ are skewed in that while there is a significant drop in recorded attendance in churches in some parts of the world, in others the growth is phenomenal. In the United States, for example, growth in religious organizations is quite significant while current development of the Witnesses has dropped to a stand-still.

So, no, the Witnesses have said anything significant about the future of religion whatsoever. They haven’t shown themselves to be very good at their prophecies.

They easily could try to do so or even say it is now banned, but there are MANY religous people way more fanatical that dubs. People will not give it up and history has shown this clearly. The one scenario that I see it happening though is with any type nuke going off at the hands of islamic extremists. It would prob be Isreal, but even if it was France, England or USA that is hit there would be a HUGE awakening as to the power and evil influence of religion as a central cause of trouble...............oompa

Banning religion would be like banning capitalism or communism, you can't! Though people can stop believing one or the other works and cease relying on it.

I believe that religion will probably be banned during the time of the AntiChrist, but I dont believe it will be any time soon.

There are many christian religions that believe this, not just JW's.

I believe that when that time finally arrives, the WT Society (if still around) will have alot of involvement in it. I could actually see the WT Society aligning itself with the Anti-Christ in order to destroy other religions and maybe trying to set itself up as the only recognized religion in the world.

It seems like this is the last remaining hard-core "prediction" interpretation of bible prophecy that the Watchtower society has left. All their other prophecies have vague fulfillments that could take many different forms but there's no mincing words when you say that the United Nations is going to turn on organized religion and kick off the end of the world.

It would appear that such a detailed prediction would make it easy for apostates to change their tune once they saw it being fulfilled, not to mention the witnesses would finally have concrete evidence to use in the field ministry to convince people that they were right.

An examination of the WTBTS history will show, however, that their biggest predictions did NOT come to pass as foretold, and that it was only years after the fact that "new light" showed them that the prophecies had already had a "spiritual fulfillment."

I see it as a certainty that this prediction will eventually be changed with "new light", but how would such a monumental change affect the rank and file? The Revelation book is being studied for what, the fourth time? Add to that the fact that the original interpretation of the UN being the image of the "wild beast" and false religion being "Babylon the Great" dates back to the early 60s and you've got one of the longest-held convictions of the WT society. The 1925 and 1975 dates were accepted doctrine for less time than that and they had a massive negative impact on the organization when they failed.

When (not if) they get rid of this prophetical interpretation there will no longer be a concrete and easily discerned "sign" for the average witness to recognize that the end of the world is here. After all, Jesus' "composite sign" of the end has supposedly been going on since the 1800s and the only other tangible sign they had (the 1914 generation) has just been extended indefinitely.

It is my favorite belief of JWs. I PRAY that it is true. I think ridding the world of religion would be the best thing to ever happen to the world. I don't think it will though. The world is getting dumber and dumber and subsequently more religious and fanatical.

I was going to post something different, but while I was typing it, I found that I was probably wrong. I was going to say that organized religion will eventually fade away (and not be destroyed as such), but that it would take centuries.

But as I think about it, I think organized religion will always be with us. As long as the universe and life is so complex, and people refuse to seek or believe scientific answers to why that is the case, and people need to hear that their lives have extra special meaning and that they'll live forever somehow, and they need others to tell them why that is the case and how to get there - - - organized religion will prevail. It may fluctuate in popularity in various parts of the world in the coming centuries, but I doubt it will ever go away completely.

I must confess that if the UN in fact does 'decree' that religion is hereby banned (and takes steps to see to it - how ever that would go down...), it would make me slightly nervous. However, it wouldn't answer any of my most important questions about God, and it won't make the JW doctrine in general any more correct.
