Continued Relationships with xJW's

I've enjoyed reading through many of the topics on this site, as I can relate to many of you. When I stumbled on this site I thought it was an active JW forum, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was born and raised as a Witness, but luckily wised up when I was in my late teens. Though the damage was done! :] As I'm sure many of you can relate, all of the close friendships and many close family members at the time were Witnesses. Once I faded all these relationships faded too. How many of you have managed to hold on to friendships and family relationships with active Witnesses now that you have disassociated yourself?

Hi and welcome.

I have retained three or four old friends. Two of them are still kind of stuck there in their head, so it's difficult to have a conversation without me accidentally running into material that scares them off crying.

My parents have decided to stay in touch, but I'll never see my siblings again.

Glad to have you here...

Some of my family are making a stand against the JW religion, some won't talk to me becasue of my stand. None of my old "friends" will talk to me anymore... freaking good riddance.

I spend most days asking myself, how can you guys be so freaking stupid and still hold on to what these fools are saying?

I haven't retained any friendships from my wit days, save one. And that is one I keep at arm's length, due to the nature of jw mentality, I don't want her knowing my personal biz. I have a pretty good relationship with my parents now, provided we avoid the topic of "the gag, gag, truth" in all situations. It helps that I live a fair distance from them, I am sure it would be a different case, If I lived nearby.

I have no relationships with "current Dubs", mine are either faders or fellow DF'd people.

I have a few, a couple of faders and some who just keep the boundaries where they belong, so it's all good. My brothers and sister are fine with me.

It's amazing what fear can do to people. I think it's also difficult for people to come to terms with the fact that they've been misguided and lied to, and all of their hopes and beliefs for the future are no longer reality. I know it was for me.
