blondie quoted: Once the Christian congregation was established, God’s servants came "under law toward Christ." Many things that were permitted under the Jewish system were to be viewed differently, based on the way in which Jehovah was now dealing with his people.—1 Corinthians 9:21; Matthew 5:31, 32; 19:3-9.
Does anyone in the Writing Department actually READ what they put to print? The scripture they've quoted above in 1 Corinthians 9:21 is simply talking about how"You must love Jehovah with your whole heart" and "you must love your neighbour as yourself. On this, the whole Law hangs and the prophet." Where does it say---or even hint----that Christians cannot accept high positions of authority in the government?
Matthew 5:31 is of course, one of the WT's favorite: "Moreover it was said, ‘Whoever divorces his wife, let him give her a certificate of divorce.’ However, I say to you that everyone divorcing his wife, except on account of fornication, makes her a subject for adultery, and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.'
Again, there is nothing in there that suggests anything about a Christian not being able to hold public office. Jesus was quoting from the Talmud ("you heard it was said") and reasserted the Commandment that "you must not commit adultery". How is adultery and a Christian holding public office even remotely related??(no Monica Lewinsky jokes....'kay?)
In fact, Christians were permitted far more freedoms than what the Jews were when it came to religious practices. If they wanted to abide by Jewish laws and practices, they still could. If they didn't want to, they didn't have to. Paul summed it up when he said:
"....For the holy spirit and we ourselves have favored adding no further burden to YOU, except these necessary things, 29 to keep abstaining from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication. If YOU carefully keep yourselves from these things, YOU will prosper...."-----Acts 15:28-29
Of course, the Writing Department is probably going on the assumption that the R&F are bored to death and glazed-eye, that no one will raise an objection to their insane 'reasoning'.
