1926 - The End of Christmas at Bethel

    alt

This photo was the last ever Christmas celebration at Bethel.

Here is a talk given by Fred Franz that explains how it came to an end:
    http://uploadline.com/files/3819855/Christmas_Franz.mp3.html

Unfortunately I don't know where this talk came from or when it was given.

Here are the main points of the talk :

19/12/1926 Talk given by a bethel speaker - Norman Woodriff (spelling ?)
    Shocked all of "us who were in the audience" (apparantly including Franz);

Fred Franz spoke in favour of celebrating Christmas.

Rutherford was informed over dinner and a heated debate followed.
Rutherford was not in favour of cancelling that Christmas celebration.
Christmas went ahead, all bar one opposer whose chair was removed from the Christmas dinner table.

Norman Woodriff was disfellowshipped later (separate incident)

The following year a talk was given on Rutherford's instructions (but not written or delivered by him).
    Christmas was then cancelled !

That's a whole different story. I have a few more mp3s, but they just sort of arrive "as and when". I'll see what I have.

The picture with numbers and names is wrong.

Milton Henschel was born in 1920, making him 6 years old at the time of the picture. So that is obviously not him in the picture. I also seriously doubt that Franz and Knorr are in that picture where the numbers indicate, if they were even in the picture at all. The one guy kinda looks like how Franz might have looked, but Franz would have been in his 30's, and the guy looks older than that.

Yeah, Henschel is definitely not in the photo for obvious reasons. Nathan Knorr joined Bethel on 9/6/1923 and I think the annotation is plausible (if it is the guy to the left of "2"), as for Franz I'm really unsure about the identification there, as this is how he looked in 1922:

I'd really like to know where Bonnie Boyd is in the photo.
