As far as leaving their children alone, they are paying the heavy price of every day they awaken and know she is gone due to their incompetence. That is a price they deserve to pay and must be a terrifically horrible burden.
There was an interesting television spot on it last night with interviews of Spanish police, the McCann's friends and family, and an independent investigator hired by the network who ultimately concluded that while there was obvious negligence, there wasn't evidence to support the case that the parents were involved.

Fair enough. Let the evidence be presented in a law court. In the meantime, you could do better than sharpening your knife of condemnation. Joining the throngs who believe in trial by television is a popular past-time though.

If by my *knife of condemnation*, you are referring to my statement they are paying a terrible price for leaving their 3 children alone at night in an unlocked room ... guilty as charged. There is no doubt that they did exactly that ... and they themselves express huge remorse for doing so. What a burden to bear.
I did not in this thread nor anywhere else condemn them for knowing what happened to her. I personally don't believe they were involved other than making the opportunity available by their negligence. I also agree that the courts may ultimately decide...but unless more evidence emerges, I don't see this case reaching a court.

Actually, no I wasn't referring to your statement. My apologies if I did not make it clear that I was referring to the insinuations elsewhere that, since they admitted leaving their children alone at night in an unlocked room, they probably also know what happened to Madeleine. A news item I read recently quoted one of the police involved in the case as saying he believed both parents "arranged" for her to be abducted. That kind of so-called inside information conveniently leaked to the media is usually based on little more than hunches that are passed off as evidence-based fact.
