Hex I am studying to be a Goth, and like Naeblis I sent away for my goth card.

Let's see if I got it right..all I gotta do is read lots of Ann Rice novels, go to goth clubs and argue about whose blacks don't match,
have sex in a graveyard, wear anything made from black fishnet and wear makeup as long as it is a shade of black.

Here is a quote from the how-to-be-a-goth handbook:

"Explore your world as a Goth. You will see things that your routine life never allowed you to perceive before. Don't fight the gloominess. Go to the cemetery and look at all the rows of stones marking the rotting remains of what were once human beings. This is the inevitable end of all life. You will feel the full awareness of what you shielded yourself from in your routine life: all life is pointless in the light of the certainty of death. Yet there is a strange power in your looming sense of doom."

Hey! What do you think of my goth poetry:

In the deep deep deep dark dankness of my dak soul I despair at the blackness of my burgoise shell of a dark burnt soul,

I make my bed and now i lie in it
red red red like the devil
    Like Satan.... SATAN
SATAN IS MY GOD. GOD IS DEAD AND I DO'NT CARE
    Jesus sux

    Thank you.

Sorry I can't help it..like I said I had a lot of goth friends and I have a sense of humor about the lifestyle. Feel free to make breakdancer/raver jokes ;)

Externally, I'm the opposite of a goth. Internally, I'm too cheerful to ever succeed as a goth. In my soul, however, I'm so non-conformist that I consider goths to be my distant cousins intellectually. I feel a kinship, something that would shock most goths until they got to know me.

    Hi Hex!

    Welcome to the board.
Cloves are my favorite kind of cigarette and sometimes I'll even smoke a black one.
    Does that count?

I'm afraid that it may be canceled out by the fact that I also like vanilla flavored cigarettes and am a married 30something mother of two.

    Hi Hex,

I used to be more gothy than I am now, in fact, its one of the things I used to get pulled into the back room for ("Sister, you're wearing too much black" "We're concerned about you dying your hair <black> <candy apple red> <black again>" blah blah). One of my friends and I used to go out to the local goth clubs (ditching our now-ex-husbands at home I might add). Hee hee. It was a fun time, especially after I got out of the Borg and could really goth out.

But, I guess I've mellowed (or gotten lazy in terms of fashion LOL) and I just sort of base my appearance on my mood that day, which sometimes means goth-ish, but it's not every day such as it was in my teens and twenties. (I just turned 31.) But my new husband and I go out to the goth clubs occasionally.

I had really long black hair up until this past spring, when I cut it into an assym-bob. I'm growing it back out now.

And hey Sirona, nice to meet another Pagan in these parts. Reconstructionist, myself. :)

    Cheers,
    ~arachnia
