Politically Correct Bombs

Herein we have a reason why JWs don't discern why the world is
getting better. Progress isn't linear or consistent, therefore
it takes some discernment - a quality lacking in shallow, knee-jerk
    Apocalyptics

It seems that one or more gay rights groups are protesting messages
hand written on bombs to be dropped on Afghanistan. AP got a photo
of a bomb with "highjack this, Fags" on it. There is now debate on
whether such personal touches should be censored.

So, there you have it. You can kill masses of people with bombs
but you have to be polite (and politically correct) about it.

All kidding aside, I see progress in this - because more and more
attention is being paid to toleration. Great effort is also
expended to have Muslim chaplains within US forces - and Bush
visits a mosque to show respect for Islam.

It isn't linear, it isn't consistent, but little by little
    it is progress.

oh, and by the way, large cities in New York state are reporting
huge decreases in serious crime - and the US gov just reported
a budget surplus of 127 billion dollars (a balanced budget was
widely claimed to be impossible several years ago - ask Vernon
    Jordan and the Urban League)

    and so it goes,

The gay-rights complaints make perfect intellectual sense.
American gays are "us" in this battle; Taliban are "them".
So we can't offend any of "us" too much no matter what we
    do to "them".

We x-JWs have moved past arbitrary moral standards, I would
have hoped.... "Thou Shalt Not Kill" was not inspired, it
was not from God, and it isn't really relevant to Real Life.

How about that!!! Meta, I've been thinking something quite similar. Y2K came & went with a whimper, compared to what the doomsayers thought. I got some doom & gloom from my own personal JW hell, but the end result was a serious fizzle.

We didn't nuke ourselves into a glow-in-the-dark planet, when we had the chance.

Bush also gets marks for going into Afghanistan slow. A really fossilized author who just wrote a book on Harry Truman characterized Bush as 'just learning' for taking a month to drop the first bomb. That really contrasted the rashness of previous generations. Such a 'rush to judgment' can't be tolerated these days.

It may be that ALL learn something from this episode of history:
Western civilization, moderate Muslims and the radicals.

Maybe things would go the way the doomsayers (JW's & others) say, IF society & civilization didn't drive itself towards MATURITY & GROWING UP.

It is quite possible that centuries from now, we will still be plodding along, solving the next problem.
