JF Rutherford: Do Ya Think He Liked Attention??? (duh)

Well this week's Book Study wraps up the seventh trumpet blast of Revelation. There was even a nice neat box showing how they all were "highlighted" by something the dubs did in the 1920's. Almost all the blasts were some dry-as-toast, "look at me" speech given by JF Rutherford at various conventions.

Now, as I sat there staring at the nice neat little box it seemed incredibly TRANSPARENT and OBVIOUS that Rutherford took a look at the 7 trumpet blasts and said "Hey, I know! Let's make this apply to us. Now I know what I'll do for the next few summers at our conventions. I'LL FULFILL BIBLE PROPHECY!!! (Humbly, of course. Ahem.)

Does anybody else see it this way? And, more importantly, does anyone have a better way of PROVING this?

I see it that way now. I remember having the same (duh) moment sitting at a bookstudy at the beginning of my long fade.

While so obvious now, it embarrasses me to think that I actually accepted that dribbling crap for too many years.

It's so embarassing they have to teach this, isn't it?

Sometimes Rutherford fulfilled Bible prophecy if he DIDN'T give a talk!

    Text:

    *** g24 12/3 p. 151 A Remarkable Fulfilment of Prophecy ***

"And it shall be, that whoso will not come up of all the families of the earth until Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, even upon them shall be no rain."-- Zechariah 14.17.

On May 6th the Spanish Government refused permission to Judge Rutherford to speak in Madrid in support of his belief, and our belief, that we have come to the time of the establishment of the Lord's kingdom in the earth -- an event described in the Revelation of St. John as "the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven".

Now whether or not others can see in it what we see in it, nevertheless a most unusual item of information comes to us in a report from our correspondent in Switzerland. The gentleman in question knew of the Spanish Government's action in refusing permission to have the truth regarding the Lord's kingdom presented to the Spanish people, and in a report to us dated August 23rd says:

"We herewith beg to enclose a copy of the Zurichsee Zeitung of August 21 in which you will find a report, marked in blue pencil, that while the whole of Central Europe is complaining about a miserable summer, no rain has fallen in Madrid, the capital of Spain, since May 6. As this was the date upon which Judge Rutherford was refused permission to lecture in that city, we feel that the matter will be of interest to you. May we assume that there is a connection between the two things?"

    Greetings, Open Mind:

Given all the biographical information on JFR [excepting that of the Society that portrays him so rosily], it's safe to say YES. He was a showman and a very canny lawyer. He was "bad association" from a purely Biblical standpoint, but from that of the Society, well ...? Since someone of such high ranking is never condemned as corrupt, but merely deemed an imperfect, humble servant of the Lord, he is never seen for what he truly is/was. A real servant of God does not require a mansion and two 12-cylinder Cadillacs.

Brazen, no-holds-barred publicity - ADVERTIZE, ADVERTIZE, ADVERTIZE - was what put "Joseph's Witnesses" [not the Bible Students] on the proverbial map. He was one of many pseudo-Christian superstars of the era.

Oh dear - "A Remarkable Fulfilment of Prophecy." The poor deluded souls. Thanks for posting that Leolaia. I've never seen that before.

    UN-

    FREAKING-

    BELIEVABLE.

What's sad is that if any active JW were to bring up an old Golden Age quote like this, it would set off BIG RED APOSTATE beacons just because it's so old.

Oh, and I guess Hollywood is controlled by the debil after all. "My Fair Lady"'s assessment of Iberian rainfall disagrees with the Golden Age.

    Thanks Leolaia.

And thanks to NewYork44M, CoCo & Clam for comiserating.

Open mind, the constant self congratulations they impart upon themselves and egocentrist Rutherford are one in the same, He had too high of an opinion of himself. And the GB has too high of an opinion of itself. Humble my ass.

don't you just find the supposed book recital just mind numbing????

    I sure do.

I could not possibly ask for a better book for my "still-making-up-their-minds" teenagers to have to suffer through.

My sincerest thanks go out to the Teaching Committee for deciding to drag us through this drivel one more time.

    For emphasis.

I remember sitting through the Climax (oxy moron that!) book for the third time, and thinking about JR how he'd "Fullfill prophecy", that it was lame, like a high school pep rally. I was stuck by peer pressure and family, otherwise I could have been out early 20's...damn damn damn.
