Please join in sending your prayers, good thoughts, reiki, healing vibes, lighting a candle or just taking a moment to think of all those named and unnamed who are fighting cancer or in any other need. Also their loved ones and caregivers.

Dansk (Ian) - Has been fighting mantle cell lymphoma for three years. He received an allogeneic cell transplant and his latest blood and bone marrow results have shown NO TRACE OF CANCER!! The CMV is also going into retreat which means his immune system is recovering too although there is still a danger that the virus could reach dangerous levels again, ian is being closely monitored for this - which unfortunately means needles - not good when you have few decent veins left!

SimpleSally (Kelly) - Has completed her treatment (Herceptin) for breast cancer! She is feeling well and her prognosis is very good

OutnFree (Brenda) -

has had a long series of chemo and radiation treatment for breast cancer. She's feeling good and her tumour marker count is down but still has swelling and soreness from the radiation which she has requested particular focus on.

Star Moore/NewTruth -

breast cancer. She has had a radical modified mastectomy, but decided against chemotherapy and is using holistic treatments. She has surprised her oncologist with the results so far - keep fighting, NewTruth

erynw

- has been fighting cancer for 10 years and has been now diagnosed with lung cancer. She is having 'regular' radiotherapy plus brachyotherapy treatment where radioactive 'seeds' are placed near the cancer site, giving more localised effects. She has been very sick from the treatments.

Please also keep the following in your thoughts:

sunspot - The surgery didn't go to plan and they were unable to insert the stent. The plan now is to operate to replace the damaged veins in her kidneys with some veins from the legs. Please keep her in your thoughts as any surgery needing anaesthetic is a cause of concern for her.

Ninja's mum -

Has terminal cancer of the oesophagus. She's had a stent fitted which is now enabling her to eat again but she has constant nausea which obviously causes great discomfort. She's been sick more lately and is trying some new meds.

I was at the hospital again yesterday and was informed that my CMV levels have gone down so well that at the doctors general discussion group they will be including myself and as to what to do next. One doctor favours taking me off medication that fights the virus, thereby allowing my own immune system to do the fighting for me. This is VERY GOOD NEWS! I'll know today by 'phone what has been decided

I'm still tired (how many times have I written THAT!?) but feeling stronger and REALLY looking forward to having a GREAT Christmas.

Thank you to ((((((((((EVERYONE))))))))))) here for your prayers/vibes/good wishes/Reiki. I have appreciated ALL.

Thank you, David. Yes, the news truly is terrific and, as you can imagine, I hang on every word! However, I doubt I shall ever feel really comfortable until at least a year has gone by, by which time I should be off ALL medication and the horrendous three years I had will be a distant memory. I have actually met someone who had a stem cell transplant 10 years ago (for a different disease to me) and, sadly, the disease has returned in a different form (he has leukaemia). However, I also know of a few people who had the same disease as I and who have been cancer free for over 10 years!! I always look on the positive and say to myself that if I got 10 years cancer free the advances in medicine would mean the treatments would likely be easier and have greater efficacy. I truly believe chemotherapy will soon be a treatment of the past. Scientists are now using (in some cases), and continually researching the use of, vaccinations to target specfic cancer cells. In other words, the treatments are focussing on hitting the cancer cells alone, unlike chemo which affects all cells in the body. Cancer WILL one day be a disease of the past, but then there are still the other terrible diseases to attack....................... This is why Stem Cell Research is VITAL and no government has the right to deprive its people of such potentially life-saving treatments. Ian

Thought I'd remind people that when someone is diagnosed as being 'Terminally ill' it is wise to sit down for a while and collect your thoughts. At one time terminal illness meant you only had weeks, if not months, to live. Now, because of medical advances, terminal illness can be a term used for someone who lives for years (I bet the insurance companies have been quick to notice and will act to close this "loophole").

I was diagnosed with a terminal illness and given 18 months to 3 years to live. Most people here know I refused trteatment, deciding to use alternative therapies which resulted in my being given only six weeks to live.I came perilously close to death but mainstream medicine kept me alive. It saved my life!

Now, three years later, I am still here and feeling far better than I have for those three years. So, the lesson is CLEAR! Whenever YOU or someone you love is diagnosed as being terminally ill please don't always think the end is literally just a week or so away. Of course, not every illness is the same and there ARE some virtually impossible-to-treat illnesses. But, in the main, 'terminal illness' doesn't now have to mean a death sentence.

Thank you too for your words about terminal illness - this was also true for a former work colleague of mine who developed liver cancer. He was given 6 months, so he took early retirement, went on the holiday of a lifetime, came back and started chemo - just for the sake of trying really. The tumour shrunk and halted growth - and 14 years on, he's still very much alive and kickingI know it isn't this good for everyone yet but like you, I believe that one day it could be.
