The Oklahoma City skyline at Christmastime (No atheists need apply)

I was zipping along, driving towards downtown at dusk this evening to pick up the mrs from work. I was sitting with my NIV bible under my left butt cheek (I use it to balance out my 2 1/2 inch wallet in my right back pocket) and flipping channels between the three Christian rock channels available trying to find the best Christmas music to sing along with. I happened to look up at our skyline and noticed that the folks at two of the largest and tallest buildings downtown had begun to configure the lights inside for the holidays. They turn out the lights on each floor except for specific ones that they keep on to form two massive crosses. They keep them lit up that way until after the first of the year. I immediately thought of my atheist friends here on JWD and how much they'd enjoy living in OKC during this time of the year. Apparently there are no atheists currently in Oklahoma City.

The largest cross is on the Chase bank formerly BankOne formerly First Interstate formerly First National Bank Okc building. Don't ya'll with a bank account at Chase just get all warm and fuzzy knowing that your money is ensconced in a vault in building with a cross on it?

(The above was posted with my tongue firmly planted in my cheek. A couple of the statements are however true, you decide which ones).

Hey, this atheist is one who happens to enjoy the lights and sounds of the Christmas season. Or the "winter solstice" season, if you wish to be more inclusive. Whatever, Christmas is in the main a secular holiday. I know in the Bible belt it is more deeply religious than in other places (such as 'everywhere else in the USA').

As far as Christmas music goes, we have two SECULAR stations here in the Twin Cities that, during the holiday season, switch over to all-holiday-music programming. You don't need to go to "Christian" stations here to find such music.

    Happy holidays y'all!

Wouldn't the cross make more sense at Easter? It's Jesus's birthday, I'm sure he doesn't want to be reminded of the worst weekend of his life.

I think the cross symbol is cool. I think the saturnalia is a great time. I like snow. I love the christmas lights. Light is semi-sacred, ya know. Christians don't own any of that. It's all pagan first. Pagans don't mind sharing.

Hmmm.....new light from Pagan's, I didn't know they owned anything. Well....Merry Christmas to all!!

Eh, the cross, solstice celebrations, lights, the tree... the Pagans had em all first- they sure are nice to let the Christians borrow em to try to cobble together for their own half borrowed festivities. And they don't even complain when the Christians toot their horn about Christmas.

    How ...charitable!!
