My partner and I always opt for experiences now because we really have every gadget and 'thing' we want and I dont want to clutter up the house any more with nick nacks.

So the last few pressies we have bought have been:

Tickets to see Lord of the Rings in London
Tickets to see Frank Skinner at Cheltenham Town Hall
Tickets to see a Guns N Roses tribute band
Trip to London - walk round the parks, picnic food from Harrods for lunch, visit to a swanky hotel bar called The Library
A walk round Stroud Farmers Market followed by a meal in a posh Stroud restaurant.
Tickets to the Horse of the Year Show for my daughter

However, I still really struggle to know what to get my daughter. Shes only 10 so the 'experience' pressies dont go down as well - she likes something wrapped up. I have no idea what to get her for Christmas. I want to get her a mobile phone next year but think shes a bit young this year (she'd probably leave it somewhere when she was playing out!)

Heres a suggestion for your wife tho - what about a spa experience at Aqua Sana - we went there when we were at Centerparcs, and ive got to say these places are like nothing else - www.AquaSana.co.uk

Ian, if Claire's worried about spending too much money then agree to put a limit on the amount spent.

We did ........................................................and I went over it

Gift vouchers suck as presents! It's exactly the same as money except you can only spend it in one shop.

I asked my kids (17 and 19) if they think that gift cards are tacky, and they said that they preferred to get a gift card for clothes, rather than the actual clothing article. They like to shop for their own stuff and find something that they really like. I asked if they'd rather have money, but they preferred a gift card to a store that they really like.

Thought I'd throw that in there... Your experience may vary... LOL! I'm new to all this Christmas stuff, so I'm still learning!

You say you're saving up for a trip -- do you have a destination in mind? If so, you could get her a book about that destination. It could be a travel guide, or a book of scenic photos, or a history of the area, or even a novel set there, depending on what your wife likes to read. If she's not a big reader, maybe you could find a DVD instead.

Well Ian you are such a sweetie Claire is one lucky gal to have you!

I think this year is setting a president with hubby and me. We have a double whammy on Christmas as it's also our anniversary (5 years!). Our dilemma is that we are pretty much broke as hubby has been out of work for several months and there is no way I would even put pressure on him to give me anything and I sure hope he's not expecting anything from me but a nice home made card. Right now all I want is for him to get a job! That is my Christmas/Anniversary wish! No tchotchkes for me, after all soon I may not have a house to put them in so what good would that do, sigh.

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and hoping for an abundant New Year!

Take her shopping. That way you well, see what she likes. Take her to a comedy show.

A dinner place where they have music. A Play House and Dinner. If she likes to dance, take

    her dancing and Dinner.

My wife and I do something different. We buy our own presents, give the other the empty box(s) to wrap and open on Christmas day. I already got my present.

Want to know the best present I ever got?

It was from my hubby a year before he died. I had felt real low because he didn't celebrate Valentines day..so I got nothing..I was in a very sad mood and felt unloved.

He went out and got me a little stuffed dog with a message tag on his neck. On it he wrote how very much he loved me . Well..time went by and I had put it on my nightstand..not paying too much attention to it. But soon after he died..one night it just jumped out at me..I took that stuffed dog and hugged it every night and cried tears on it. Believe it or not that really helped me. It was something he picked out just for me and had wrote a love note on it. I still hug it when I go to bed...it is very special to me!

Before we got married he gave me a charm bracelet with a heart on it. He had out initials engraved on it..That was over 40 years ago..I still have it! I think that is about as special as the doggie. One was the first present..and the other was the last..

Those are the kind of presents that mean a lot to me..sentimental ...

    Snoozy...
