Has WTS abandoned "house to house" ministry?

*** w00 1/15 p. 13 par. 17 "Keep on the Watch" ***Fifth, we see a global preaching work being accomplished, which Jesus said would take place just before the end of this system. Jesus stated: "This good news of the kingdom will be preached in all the inhabited earth for a witness to all the nations; and then the end will come." (Matthew 24:14) Today, that prophecy is in the course of fulfillment on an unprecedented scale. True, untouched territories still exist, and it may be that in Jehovah’s due time, a large door leading to greater activity will open. (1 Corinthians 16:9) Nevertheless, the Bible does not state that Jehovah will wait until every individual on earth has received a personal witness. Rather, the good news must be preached to Jehovah’s satisfaction. Then the end will come.—Compare Matthew 10:23.

While I agree they are "branching out" in order to be more effective, I can't imagine them ever giving up "door to door" work. It's their trade mark.

Besides, what would comedians do if they no longer had JW door to door jokes to tell?

I don't think they've "abandoned" - BTWperhaps an unfortunate choice of adjective - the house to house work, and that there is probably no signficance in their mentioning instead the "door to door ministry".

I see the reference to the door to door work as a simple acknowledgement that their preaching work encompasses apartment estates and huge appartment blocks where they literally go door to door rather than house to house. I suppose also that, from their perspective, the phrase door to door can conceivably encompass both house to house preaching and appartment preaching.

Earlier posters observations are well taken: Gone are the days when we always used to see the JWs out on the streets going house to house. The frequency and duration of their preaching work has plummeted, an indication that the life cycle of sectarian movements is predictably finite and that coffee is an increasingly appealing alternative for the weary door-knockers.

Says Jeffreywhat: There are so many forms of media not being utilized, the only reason Jesus did door to door is because that was the only option.

Do you really believe that Jesus actually went door to door.....knocking at strangers houses? Is this really part of WTS teachings?

I absolutely find it hard to believe that people would believe that is how Jesus conducted himself.

From what I have read in Bible scripture, the crowds came to him, he did not go out one to one looking for people.

When news of his mountainside talks got around, he was invited into people's home.

His disciples often went ahead of him into a new area and scouted things out.

Of course they met folks in the park, at the wells, public areas, etc. and mentioned that Jesus would be coming to town soon. They made themselves available to answer their questions. They gave announcement and advance publicity.

    People would talk it about.

There would already be some excitement about it before his arrival, and disciples made arrangements when people offered to host dinner or offer their homes for bed and breakfast.

That's how celebrities were treated back then.

The disciples were his publicity and business agents.........they kept his schedule, his agenda, made notes of special interest cases in the area, and special needs folks who seemed receptive to hearing what Jesus might have to say. They kept tract of requests for visitations. I think the disciples acted as our present day media does today.

I just don't see Jesus as being pushy and arrogant enough to barge in on someone uninvited nor waste his time trying to convince people of his greatness one-on- one. Why would a son of God need to humiliate himself like that?

    Perhaps this is relevant?

    *** w05 6/15 pp. 27-28 par. 19 Young People, Praise Jehovah! ***

    19

The door-to-door ministry is a most effective way to praise Jehovah. If you are not yet taking part, why not set it as a goal? If you are taking part, are there further goals that you may set for yourself? For example, rather than saying essentially the same thing at each door, look for ways to improve, asking your parents and other experienced ones for pointers. Learn how to use the Bible more, to make effective return visits, and to start a Bible study. (1 Timothy 4:15) The more you praise Jehovah in such ways, the more effective you will become, and the more you will enjoy your ministry.

:Is it possible that the lack of enthusiasm for the house to house service has forced the GB to do a re-think?

Since when did they think, let alone re-think something they never thunked before?

Farkel, you know very well that "thunked" is not a word.

Now, "debunked" is a word! LOL

In Los Angeles JW's look like retards. First of all it's too casual. Someone showing up at your door looks way to over dressed. 2nd, it's a beach town on the west side. No one is up b4 11:00am. The door to door is as archaic as the 30's. A different age and different mentality.

Judging by family participation, door to door work is very much in vogue in South Oz at the moment. And you'll never catch them going to a cafe, either.
