They have the same kind of brain washing sessions that jw's have.

The Bible study, the charts, and the weeks and months to convert.

They are another cult, probably as bad or worse than jw's. Only thing different is they are smarter, they send their kids to college so that they can tithe with more money.

Avoid them like you would any cult.

The one thing I like about Mormons...they LIKE to make money. They tithe so that cost a little that needs offsetting by income producing prowess. Romney and his Dad are both business men of the forst order. Daddy George ran a little ole car company called Nash-rambler that he morphed in American Motors. He was a pretty good governor during Michigans industrial heyday.

So 'TWS' and a Mormon president? I dont think that Mitt Romney would lie or misdirect the country any more or less than any other CEO Political type person out there. The LDS community is no more honest or dishonest than society in general.

As the Mormans moved place to place until they settled Utah they played it straight up with the states they settled in and they neigbors they lived near.. I mean if I was gonna "TWS" a subject like multiple wifes, to keep the local town from lynching me , well, that would be the place to do it. The Mormons didnt. Right or wrong they stood up for what they believed in and took the persecution that came for it.

When it came time for Utah statehood the LDS stopped endorsing multiple wifes. There are still a few hardcore Mormans out in the boonies who do that but the Mainstream Mormos dont.

Just like ALL organized religion, there are plenty of skeletons in their closets. Romney is in hot water these days for hiring illegal immigrants as maids, then just the other day, having to fire them.

I believe their faith is based on some baloney created by Smith involving some really hokey stuff. You should all read about it. Pretty fake.

However, I truly believe that most individual Priests and Pastors, etc, have their hearts in the right place. Seems though that once big bucks gets involved, so goes the reputation.

I can't imagine the outrage if some woman took on several husbands. Why do so many men think women are here to be abused in ways I cannot imagine. Never mind what the bible says about Eve. They are not here for our amusement. Why would I want a leader who believes in the stuff I have read? One couldn't believe in this nonsense, and be a good leader. This is the 21st century ppl.

As generally practiced in America by non-immigrants, polygamy has often been abusive. Not only Whatsizname Jeffs but Brigham Young himself has been accused of abusing young women - girls, really - by marrying them barely pubescent and otherwise mistreating them.

OTOH, in places where polygamy has been traditional for centuries, some kind of fairness is eventually hashed out.

A couple of weeks ago I met an American woman, white as typing paper, who is married to a Ghanian. She has been to Ghana with him more than once. Polygamy is alive and well over there.

The woman said, "I'm not worried about it, because I've seen it work. The wives divide up the work of the family: one wife makes all the beer the family drinks [traditional beer has low alcohol content and plenty of vitamins and minerals]; one looks after all the kids and has nothing else to do; another does all the cooking and doesn't have to worry about anything else.

"People ask me, 'But what happens if your husband wants another wife?' I say, 'Bring it on!' Because I would get to pick the next wife!"

    Gently feral,

If you were in Ghana you might get to pick the next wife. Joseph Smith typically married another woman with out his first wife knowing. When he married another man's wife, the man was typically out of town and not consulted. Supposedly, according to D&C 132 (mormon scripture), the wife should be consulted and give permission (if she doesn't give permission, she will be DESTROYED). Historically, consulting the wife wasn't followed by Joe, brig and many other polygs. Many girls were told who to marry.

I wouldn't say that mormons are taught to lie, but we are taught to distort. It is a BIG commandment not to speak ill of the lord's annointed (church leaders). So, when bad things about leaders / history / doctrine arises, mormons get uncomfortable and will only tell or SPIN the good or best they can imagine out of the situation. They will avoid any evil speaking. If this includes avoiding SERIOUS crimes and DISTURBING events and doctrines, so be it.

I about choked the other day listening to the glenn beck radio program. Talking about Mitts upcoming speech, he told people not to expect any secret handshakes or codewords, because there aren't any. This was a blatant LIE.

I was a good friend of a Mormon family when I was first attending meetings of JW's in Prescott, Arizona. (1961)

I did get a pretty good pitch of Mormon doctrine and teachings for several months. I always noted the difference between the two, Mormons had a gym for the kids and games and a real good youth program, while at the jw's wouldn't even have a park bence for a lunch break at the KH.

I have met nice mormons, but one of the lyingest, cheatingist people that I know is a mormon elder in Draper Utah.

I have read a large part of the book of mormon, and at one time I could use it in service to disprove the claim that the mormons made tha the BM does not contradict the Bible.

    Thats about all I know.
