By JOHN STOSSEL and GENA BINKLEY
Dec. 7, 2007 Over the last few months, I've received hundreds of e-mails from people who wanted me to interview the unconventional Republican presidential candidate Rep. Ron Paul, R-Tex. So this week I did.

In our hour-long interview, Paul and I discussed illegal immigration, the Iraq War, when war is necessary, the proper role of government, health care, drug laws, prostitution and more.

Despite relatively low poll numbers, Paul has had a big influence on the presidential campaign. That's in part because he's raised a ton of money, and in part because of the passionate following he has on the Web. It's one reason we're posting my interview with Paul only on the Internet, where the debate about Paul is very active. In fact, he's the most Googled presidential candidate.

    Legalize Drugs and Prostitution?</form>

In the interview, we discussed prostitution, drug use and gay marriage. Paul says these are not things that the federal government should try to control.

"I think the government's role should not be involved in personal habits. When you defend freedom, you defend freedom of choice, and you can't be picking and choosing how people use those freedoms . . .whether it's personal behavior or economic behavior, I want people to have freedom of choice," Paul asserted.

He believes the constitution says such issues should be left to the states to decide, and if a state chooses to legalize marijuana, cocaine, heroin and/or prostitution, so be it.

COMMENTS FROM A RON PAUL FORUM:

Makes no sense from a marketing standpoint

You have a interview with someone who is very popular on the internet. Here is a way to expand the reach of your traditional media, television, to an audience that is web based. Why wouldn't you, as a business, as a network, want to expand your viewing audience and bring new viewers from the web to your network. Absolutely, totally irresponsible to their advertisers.

My comment to ABC Polite and to the point!

I understand that you have chosen to not air the Ron Paul interview nationally on 20/20. I believe this to be a mistake. Ron Paul deserves equal air time and coverage. If the interview has been conducted, then the public at large, including those who do not use the internet, have a need to see a different view point or perhaps the re-asserted classical conservative view point. Please consider all the "Goldwater" conservatives out there that would love to hear that message again. Thanks

ABC knows that almost everyone on the internet knows who Ron Paul is. It is 100% BS that they are only playing it on the internet. They think they can shut us up doing an interview and only playing it online. We know the game they play. Keep the letters and emails going

Stands to figure ABC would not put it on. Ron Paul has the best political ideas of all the candidates. They view him as a threat to their political agenda

Even if Ron Paul were to win the nomination, there are too many powerful people that would keep him from being in office. I honestly wouldn't be surprised to hear of Ron paul voters being turned away during the primaries

Ron Paul would quickly be assassinated if he won. The banking interests that really control the country would make sure of that.

American politics - a slightly bigger yawn than my country's politics , although I do think Hilary sure has a captivating style.

'Ron Paul would quickly be assassinated if he won.'

Yah, remember the three kennedys, senator paul wellstone, and mel carnahan. The latter three all died in private plane crashes. Small plane crashes were a fav of getting rid of pesky people by you know who. Could be coincidence, i suppose, but three democrat candidates who were very serious threats?
