I was walking to my car after work, it was very cold (low 40's F) and getting dark and a beggar woman walks up to me sobbing and crying about being cold. She didn't want to go through another very cold night light last night (low 30's F) and she needed money to get into a local shelter. Yes, it costs $12 per night to get into a homeless shelter... that's Texas for ya.
I normally don't give money to beggars because I have seen them abuse my generosity. Every now and then I might give a dollar bill. This time, because of the near freezing temps late at night I decided to giver her a $10 bill so she could get into the shelter.
When she saw the $10 bill she instantly stopped sobbing and perked up with a big "Thanks!" .
Maybe I'm a bit out of touch, but it seems like it should take awhile for a sobbing person to regain their composure.
I think I've been had.
