(Deuteronomy 20:15-18) 15 "That is the way you will do to all the cities very far away from you that are not of the cities of these nations. 16 It is only of the cities of these peoples that Jehovah your God is giving you as an inheritance that you must not preserve any breathing thing alive, 17 because you should without fail devote them to destruction, the Hit´tites and the Am´or·ites, the Ca´naan·ites and the Per´iz·zites, the Hi´vites and the Jeb´u·sites, just as Jehovah your God has commanded you; 18 in order that they may not teach YOU to do according to all their detestable things, which they have done to their gods, and YOU may indeed sin against Jehovah YOUR God.

As a child I wondered how the Israelite men killed the babies, a sword slice to the throat? their heads bashed into the wall? A stab through the heart? I wondered how a baby could be such a danger.

This lesson attempts to set up a parallel between a dying Joshua exhorting worshippers of Jehovah to bludgeon their way into the land of the Philistines, and a dying Governing Body exhorting JW's to keep pushing forward for the never-to-be-fulfilled promise of life in a new system.

So how are we to trust them when they say Jehovah's Word never fails?

In 1914, Russell announced the end of the Gentile Times (as stated in this study), but Jehovah's Word (according to the WT Society) was that the entire end of the world system and its governments and religions would then occur.

Up until the mid 1990's, the Watchtower said that Jehovah's Word was that the generation that saw the events of 1914 would see the end of the evil world and be ushered into a new one.

Jehovah's Word, as stated to the believers and the public by the Watchtower Society, keeps failing. Why are we to believe them now?

    Thanks Terry.

    19) Surely from what we have seen with our own eyes, we can say: "Not one word out of all the good words that Jehovah your God has spoken to you has failed. They have all come true for you. Not one word of them has failed." (Joshua 23:14) Jehovah delivers, protects, and sustains his servants. Can you point to any promise of his that failed to be fulfilled at his appointed time?It is impossible to do so. We wisely trust in the reliable Word of God.

-I didn't know OBVES wrote for the Watchtower?

I hope someone somewhere in some congregation on earth has the decency to raise their hand and say "Uhm... there are the cases of all those prophesied dates that didn't come true in the previous century, y'know."

I guess they could say (at best) "Well, it wasn't his appointed time, though, we just thought it was. The light gets brighter." But as God's only channel during the most important time in human history, you'd think they'd have been better informed.

Also, interesting that they trust the Bible because the Bible says it's trustworthy. You really can't beat that.

    This could be fun.

Pull out a pre-95 Awake bound volume. In any issue, point to the masthead where it says something about "the Creator's promise of a righteous new world before the generation that saw 1914 dies out."

Ask if that really was the Creator's promise?

If yes, then the promise failed.

If no, then the Awake was guilty of printing, for many years, a lie regrading what the Creator promised. So, why should we trust what the publishers print now?

What about the presence of Jesus being in 1874 which as not completely changed to 1914 until 1943?

*** w74 8/15 p. 507 No Spiritual "Energy Crisis" for Discreet Ones ***Hence, when C. T. Russell began publishing a new religious magazine in July 1879, it was called "Zion’s Watch Tower and Herald of Christ’s Presence." It was heralding Christ’s presence as having begun in 1874. This invisible presence was expected to continue until the Gentile Times ended in 1914

*** w74 8/15 p. 507 No Spiritual "Energy Crisis" for Discreet Ones ***In 1943 the Watch Tower Society’s book "TheTruthShallMakeYouFree" did away with the nonexistent extra 100 years in the period of the Judges and placed the end of 6,000 years of man’s existence in the 1970’s. It also fixed the beginning of Christ’s presence, not in 1874, but in 1914 C.E.

*** jv chap. 28 p. 632 Testing and Sifting From Within ***Based on the premise that events of the first century might find parallels in related events later, they also concluded that if Jesus’ baptism and anointing in the autumn of 29 C.E. paralleled the beginning of an invisible presence in 1874, then his riding into Jerusalem as King in the spring of 33 C.E. would point to the spring of 1878 as the time when he would assume his power as heavenly King. They also thought they would be given their heavenly reward at that time. When that did not occur, they concluded that since Jesus’ anointed followers were to share with him in the Kingdom, the resurrection to spirit life of those already sleeping in death began then. It was also reasoned that the end of God’s special favor to natural Israel down to 36 C.E. might point to 1881 as the time when the special opportunity to become part of spiritual Israel would close.

How does Jehovah supposedly support us now? Bans on college at a time when the economy is about to sour. Window washing jobs that pay crap. Pleas to waste all our money on gas for field circus. Putting all our money in the Worldwide Pedophile Defense Fund. The fantastic waste of money that is soon to come when they announce the venue of the Grand Boasting Session this coming summer, where they will give you more instruction of the publisher that crosses crocodile waters every day and still pioneers. All to lead to destitution in old age, which many people that fell for the 1969 rant about not getting old are reaching.

As for the prophecies that failed, they challenge us to find any prophecies that did not happen. Every single one of their prophesies have failed. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM! They were telling people to stay alive to '75. Now, they have erased that memory, and a lot of people that followed that counsel are being chided for serving with a date in mind (had they prepared for beyond '75, they would have been hounded to expend themselves totally because what happens then doesn't matter. They needed to focus on 1975, since the world would be destroyed then. It did not happen.) And the generation that was able to discern 1914 was not supposed to pass away, and yet they are almost all gone. Even their prediction of growth speeding up has failed since people are leaving in droves, and I doubt that they are going to come in now that mainstream sources have reported pedophile scandals in the organization.

If this is the sort of refried cat sxxx articles they are reduced to putting out, then I have no reason to ever go back. Jehovah has failed me in every possible way. He has stopped Satan from providing for me emotionally and sexually (and He has the nerve to claim to provide for all of my needs). I have yet to see Jehovah provide for anyone. They give Him the credit when it is in fact their own work that provided for themselves. And they wonder why I predict that their next push, about 2014 and 2034, are also going to bust.

    par 1

Did any of Joshua's sons prove to be faithful leaders?

    par 2,3

Had Joshua been given changing prophecies? 1874 then 1914; 1925 and 1975 as the start of the

    paradise?

    Consistently?

    *** w93 1/15 p. 5 ‘Caught Away to Meet the Lord’—How? ***

The Watchtower has consistently presented evidence to honesthearted students of Bible prophecy that

Jesus’ presence in heavenly Kingdom power began in 1914. Events since that year testify to Jesus’

    invisible presence. (Matthew 24:3-14)

*** jv chap. 28 pp. 631-632 Testing and Sifting From Within ***

Calculations based on this cycle of years led to the conclusion that perhaps a greater Jubilee for all the

earth had begun in the autumn of 1874, that evidently the Lord had returned in that year and was invisibly

present, and that “the times of restitution of all things” had arrived.—Acts 3:19-21, KJ.

Based on the premise that events of the first century might find parallels in related events later, they also

concluded that if Jesus’ baptism and anointing in the autumn of 29 C.E. paralleled the beginning of an

invisible presence in 1874, then his riding into Jerusalem as King in the spring of 33 C.E. would point to

the spring of 1878 as the time when he would assume his power as heavenly King. They also thought they

would be given their heavenly reward at that time. When that did not occur, they concluded that since

Jesus’ anointed followers were to share with him in the Kingdom, the resurrection to spirit life of those

already sleeping in death began then. It was also reasoned that the end of God’s special favor to natural

Israel down to 36 C.E. might point to 1881 as the time when the special opportunity to become part of

    spiritual Israel would close.

    paragraph 4

Have jws seen things such as the 10 plagues, the sea split, manna appear?

"similar assurances to his modern-day people (only jws)...true in our lifetime"

    paragraph 5

Moses waited? 40 years before killed Egyptian thinking that was the day, then fled and came back 40

years later only to wander in the wilderness for another 40 years and never enter the promised land.

    paragraph 6

"chosen nation" no nation before, God dealt with individuals, no need for an organization to have a

    relationship with humans.

    paragraph 7

No mention of Egypt's defeat by the Israelites by the Egyptian enemies, hmmmmm?

    paragraph 8

Story behind Canaanites being destroyed--genocide--because Canaan disrespected grandfather Noah?

    protective care--no Israelite soldiers died??????

    paragraph 9,10

    Manna, Israelites complained
Clothing--what jws would settle for wearing the same clothes for 40 years

    paragraph 11

10/2/1914, CTR declares "Gentile Times" has ended not the beginning of the presence of Christ in kingly

power because that had already begun in 1874 and 1881, the WT even declared the presence of Christ

as already having started with the first issue in 1879.

    paragraph 12

"five years later" = 1919, released from BTG, actually the WT administration was released from prison.

"Jehovah established pure worship" yet among their teachings the WTS still used the cross, taught 1874

as the presence of Christ, used pyramidology, the cross, celebrated birthdays and Christmas.

    paragraph 13

1919 "bold witnessing" really not "advertise, advertise, advertise" until 1922.
1930's, other sheep, 2007 QFR says that 1935 is no longer the cut off date for calling people to heave
Millions, 6,700,000, only jws are God's people

    *** w89 9/1 p. 19 par. 7 Remaining Organized for Survival Into the Millennium ***

Only Jehovah’s Witnesses, those of the anointed remnant and the “great crowd,” as a united organization

under the protection of the Supreme Organizer, have any Scriptural hope of surviving the impending end

of this doomed system dominated by Satan the Devil. (Revelation 7:9-17; 2 Corinthians 4:4) They will

make up the “flesh” that Jesus Christ said would be saved through the worst tribulation of all human

    history.

Increase does not mean God's blessing or else LDS, Catholics, Muslims have God's blessing too.

    paragraph 14

"Jehovah will sweep aside those who oppose" Where's Jesus?

sweep away all non-jws including babies

    paragraph 15

Endured bitter opposition and cruel persecution

Also other religions. Look at this website.

    www.forum18.org

    paragraph 16

Haven't other religions prospered? Muslims, megachurches, etc.

Who oppressed jws today? Names? Most religions don't even care about jws and the WTS.

    paragraph 17

FDS--where is the proof that the WTS is the organization containing the FDS? Who are they? Just the

GB? Do the other anointed jws have input into the publications and convention material?

    paragraph 18

Where is the proof that we are living in the time of the end?
Bibles abound because of non=jw Bible Societies not the WTS.
People have WTS publications but do they read them?

Is the WTS the only religion that doesn't teach hellfire and the trinity? Check Wikipedia.

    paragraph 19

Other religions could make the same claims.
    www.forum18.org

    paragraph 20

The day will come--how many years have jws/WTS been waiting? 1879 to 2007, 128 years, how many

    more?
