Yes!! I love Minipop, a local dreampop/indie band here in the Bay Area. I've gone to a few of their shows and I really love their EP and now debut album. Here is their site:

My favorite songs by them aren't even on this page...."Bikram", "Generator", and "Fingerprints" are on their EP and album.

Seriously, check 'em out (you can tell I'm a fan :)).

Do you mean local as in not famous or started out local and are now famous? In case of the latter I would go with Queensryche, Heart and Pearl Jam.

The other non-famous local band I really like is Let's Go Sailing, from L.A. I've been following them since 2004. Anyway here is my favorite song by them:

I've been in San Antonio 3 and a half years and I can't say I have a favorite local from here, but this one from Puerto Rico, I really like. Specially this song, it's long and in spanish but it's awesome.I'ts about a massacre, decades ago, during a protest against the colonial occupation of PR.

Since I love Blues, I get out often to listen to local bands. There is a large tavern about 1/2 mile from my house called Harvey Wilner's and every Saturday he has a band playing. There have been some really great rock, blues, and classic rock bands playing there, but my favorite is a Pittsburgh group called the Mystic Knoghts. These guys are fantastic and Starting in Januray they will be there every Wednesday evening with open mike night where anyone with some talent can jam with them.

These guys have played with some of the biggies in the business too! What is so great about live music is that you are right there within a few feet of the band and get to gab with them during breaks.

Check out the Mystic Knights web site here............

This is a heavy metal band from Quebec. They opened for Paul Di'anno when he was in town. Never before have I wanted to buy a CD of an opening band, but this was a first. They only had a CD of three songs available.

I see they're recording an album now! I gotta get it when it comes out!

You can listen to them on their website
