    Thanks sademo!

And thanks, HS. But that last Dolphins bit brought me close to putting my eyes out. At least you didn't embed a music video too...I might not have recovered from that.

John Butler Trio 'Something's Gotta Give

A little feeling in my gut that I get of late
When I think about these cats running the world with hate
    I say: something's gotta give

Got the whole world fighting for the Texas tea
Got a little for you, I got a little for me
But the kettle's leaking like a sieve

There's a puddle on the floor
There's a puddle in the sky
The kettle's leaking so much man it's burning my eyes yeah
Can't you just throw that damn pot out

On the subject of throwing stuff away
I know some deaf men who can't hear a word we say
No matter, No matter how loud we do shout

    And I say...

Something's gotta give right now boy
Something's gotta give right now for you
Something's gotta give right now man
    Something's gotta give right now

I was reading the newspaper just yesterday
Got the headlines reading God bless the USA
And I thought: God Bless Everyone

God bless the people in New York when they were attacked
God bless the children being bombed there in Iraq
God bless the goddamn junkie with a monkey on his back
God bless everybody under the sun

Cause the world ahead will end if we don’t got love
Do your job and pay attention to God above
But eventually the only guarantee will be that the tea in your tank will run dry

Because without love you know there aint no life
You can duplicate it and bottle it up all you like
But it doesn't mean you're gonna get another try
    Get another try boy

Something's gotta give right now boy
Something's gotta give right now P-Yoo
Something's gotta give right now man
    Something's gotta give right now

    I Said..
Something's gotta give right now boy
Something's gotta give right now (Yeah)
    Something's gotta give right now
    Something's gotta give right now.....

I love these protest songs, they offer hope, that the masses are not fully taken in by the propaganda for war. To me it is a wonder how so many march in step with the "state's" designs to dominate the world which will only invovle more suffering for the poor. lets all do our best to free ourselves from such domination and deciet and eventually slavish control by the state. When we free our own minds from indoctrinated bullshit we have been subject to from the time we were born, we come a long way to free the world from the wasteful "state" that that taxes us to death in it's efforts to stay #1 world power. Reclaim your mind, do not let the state dictate to you what and were your loyalties are and think for yourselves.

Here's a message from the Iraqi resistance:

Okay, Hillary, you asked for the very best of protest songs, here's the best I have heard (And I grew up in the 1960's). Please do watch and listen, if you haven't heard this before, you're going to be blown away. I've posted these lyrics to forum several times. Now I can post a YouTube link. I am also going to post the lyrics yet again. This song has a lot of energy, passion, righteous indignation and even anger. And being the master of sarcasm, you'll appreciate it all the more.

Wasteland of the Free by Iris Dement

Living in the wasteland of the free...

We got preachers dealing in politics and diamond mines
and their speech is growing increasingly unkind
They say they are Christ's disciples
but they don't look like Jesus to me
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

We got politicians running races on corporate cash
Now don't tell me they don't turn around and kiss them peoples' ass
    You may call me old-fashioned
but that don't fit my picture of a true democracy
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

We got CEO's making two hundred times the workers' pay
but they'll fight like hell against raising the minimum wage
and If you don't like it, mister, they'll ship your job
to some third-world country 'cross the sea
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

Living in the wasteland of the free
where the poor have now become the enemy
Let's blame our troubles on the weak ones
Sounds like some kind of Hitler remedy
Living in the wasteland of the free

We got little kids with guns fighting inner city wars
So what do we do, we put these little kids behind prison doors
and we call ourselves the advanced civilization
that sounds like crap to me
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

We got high-school kids running 'round in Calvin Klein and Guess
who cannot pass a sixth-grade reading test
but if you ask them, they can tell you
the name of every crotch on MTV
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

We kill for oil, then we throw a party when we win
Some guy refuses to fight, and we call that the sin
but he's standing up for what he believes in
and that seems pretty damned American to me
and it feels like I am living in the wasteland of the free

Living in the wasteland of the free
where the poor have now become the enemy
Let's blame our troubles on the weak ones
Sounds like some kind of Hitler remedy
Living in the wasteland of the free

While we sit gloating in our greatness
justice is sinking to the bottom of the sea
Living in the wasteland of the free
Living in the wasteland of the free
Living in the wasteland of the free

    Flying,

Yes, I know this song. In fact I have met the performer through a mutual friend in Nashville. She has a lot of heart and I like this song, it is has no pretences to be anything that it is not.

Iris Dement is amazing and I think you're very fortunate to have met her. That's really very cool. Put a smile on my face. It is a great protest song. There is an interview with her on YouTube about this song. She said she never dreamt when she wrote it that things could get so much more worse.

Crowded House - 'Now We're Getting Somewhere'

It never used to be that bad
    But neither was it great
    Somewhere in the middle than
    Content and much too safe
    Ooh tell me please
    Why it takes so long
To realise when theres something wrong

Lay me out with your heart
    Now were gettin somewhere
Push me back to the start
    Now were gettin somewhere
Take me out let me breathe
    Now were gettin somewhere
When Im with you I dont care
    Where it is Im falling

Theres money in the Bible belt
    Hugs for daddy too
    Three wishes for eternity
Weve got some work to do
Ooh tell me please, tell me what went wrong
Cos I believe there is something wrong

Lay me out with your heart
    Now were gettin somewhere
Push me back to the start
    Now were gettin somewhere
Take me out let me breathe
    Now were gettin somewhere
When Im with you I dont care
    Where it is Im falling

When you took me to your room
    I swear I said surrender
When you opened up your mouth
I saw the words fall out
    Though nothing much has changed
    I swear I will surrender
There is pain in my heart
We can choose what we choose to believe

I saw Iris Dement performing with John Prine a few years ago; they have a great collaboration.

Speaking of John Prine, he has one of the great protest songs from the Vietnam era, "Your Flag Decal Won't Get You Into Heaven Anymore". He joked back in 2003 that he had put that one on the shelf for 15 years or so, thinking he'd never need to sing it again, but that the current president's actions made him think he ought to dust it off and make it part of his shows once again.

And now he has a not so subtle dig in a song for the Iraq era, "Some Humans Ain't Human":

    <snip>

    Have you ever noticed
    When you're feeling really good
    There's always a pigeon
That'll come shit on your hood

    Or you're feeling your freedom
And the world's off your back
    Some cowboy from Texas
Starts his own war in Iraq

    Some humans ain't human
    Some people ain't kind
    They lie through their teeth
With their head up their behind
    You open up their hearts
    And here's what you'll find
    Some humans ain't human
    Some people ain't kind

    <snip>
